SARASOTA, Fla. — The First Annual Sino-American Inter-University Medical/Dental/Nursing Exchange Conference will be held at the campus of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, it was announced today by L.R. Mage, LLC, the USA event administrator. The event will be open to the entire healthcare community October 14, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

A medical delegation of key governmental healthcare personnel from Zunyi, P.R. of China, will be visiting the Tampa Bay area and performing site tours of healthcare institutions now engaged in an exciting medical exchange initiative called the Sino-American Inter-University Medical/Dental/Nursing Exchange Program.

Three years ago, while participating in the Sarasota-Zunyi Friendship Agreement delegation, Leonard A. Rubinstein, M.D., Sarasota local physician and cosmetic surgeon, conceived the idea for the Exchange Program and the upcoming event.

Meetings will take place under the direction of Dr. Rubinstein. They will be between city government leaders and strategic members of the Tampa Bay medical community with one goal in mind: to discuss and expand further initiatives aimed at uniting the efforts of various schools of thought in medicine - primarily, Allopathic, Osteopathic, Homeopathic, Oriental, Naturopathic and Ayurvedic Medicine.

The Chinese delegation will be led by Dr. Shi Jingshan. Both the Exchange Program and the upcoming Medical Conference will be administered by the international business development company of L. R. Mage, Inc.

The Sino-American Inter-University Medical/Dental/Nursing Exchange is designed to serve as a platform where the medical community can build stronger cooperatives in healthcare between the U.S. and P.R. of China as well as between the healthcare practitioners representing the various schools of thought within medicine.

Traditional Chinese medicine has become an exceedingly popular alternative to Western medicine for many acute and chronic conditions. While it is becoming more accepted in the U.S., most Western-trained physicians still do not accept many of the alternative therapies.

In addition, for many years, physicians kept within their professional specialty and rarely did they work together. “The result,” Dr. Rubinstein said, “forces patients to choose between one practitioner from a particular school of thought or the other…..this leads to fragmentation of healthcare with resulting patient confusion and segmented, non-integrative and sub-optimal care and results.”

In concert with the University of South Florida Health, Tampa General Hospital, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and the East-West College of Natural Medicine, Dr. Rubinstein, who also serves on the faculty of both East-West College of Natural Medicine and Zunyi College of Medicine, has arranged for continuing medical education credits to be earned by registered M.D., D.O., D.O.M., Lic.AP physicians and nurses attending the conference.

“This conference marks the first of what will become many similar cooperative inter-disciplinary teaching exchanges among practitioners representing various schools of thought in medicine,” Dr. Rubinstein said. “Until now, physicians representing the various schools of thought in medicine have not had an opportunity to attend a unified conference.”

Dr. Rubinstein’s concept of the inter-city Exchange was to include not only cultural and business relationship development, but also to promote the development of scientific and medical exchanges. The long-term goal is to create conduits for inter-university, cross-discipline study and cooperative educational programs and research between the institutions and between the healthcare institutions of Sarasota and Zunyi. “This Exchange could not have occurred without the integrated assistance of Dr. Jingshan from Zunyi Medical College, Dr. Patricia Gorzka from USF Health, Dr. Robert George from Lake Erie College and Cynthia O’Donnell from East-West College,” affirms Dr. Rubinstein.”We all understand the vital need for such Exchange,” he adds.

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, The Honorable Mr. Hua Jinzhou explains that the Chinese medical delegation led by Dr. Shi Jingshan, Dean and President of the Zunyi College of Medicine, deems that their visits must further promote the opportunities for collaboration and exchange in the related fields based on reciprocity and mutual benefit.

While Dr. Rubinstein’s original training is in traditional Western Allopathic Medicine and Surgery, he has expanded his scope of practice by gaining additional training in Homeopathic and Oriental Medicine and incorporated beneficial aspects of these various disciplines into his professional, clinical private practice.

“I anticipate that the Sarasota-Zunyi Medical/Dental/Nursing Exchange Program will become one of the most acclaimed exchange programs between China and U.S.” Jinzhou said.
