NEW YORK, N.Y. — A new book from AuthorHouse, Inc., authored by Rico Thompson, is written to help college freshmen get off on the right foot and get a leg up in college; “15 Easy and Fun Ways College Freshmen Can Improve Their Vocabulary” (ISBN-13: 978-1403394477), reveals ways for college freshmen to improve word power.

“15 Easy and Fun Ways College Freshmen Can Improve Their Vocabulary” combines practical advice with real-life stories. Unlike other vocabulary building or improvement books, this book is specifically tailored to address the needs of college freshmen.

College freshmen often display poor performance and test scores because they have not transitioned from grade school to college-level composition. They may also have a minimal understanding of what is expected during college-level writing courses, and are not aware of helpful resources to advance vocabulary skills.

Rico Thompson“15 Easy and Fun Ways College Freshmen Can Improve Their Vocabulary” offers a schedule of techniques to be applied during a 15-week semester. Techniques include reading and writing exercises that allow students to venture into unfamiliar material while developing a richer vocabulary.

The book also addresses the difficulty of adapting to a new social environment; readers will learn how to effectively communicate through their new vocabulary.

The author, Thompson, was a student recruiter for the City College of New York, and has also worked as an assistant professor of English; he has written numerous columns and articles on the subject.

“Freshmen are unique,” Thompson said. “This book emphasizes out-of-the-box thinking that’s extremely helpful to first-time college students. It also teaches students how to be resourceful and quickly gather information.”

Along with advice on socializing and tips for improving tests scores, “15 Easy and Fun Ways College Freshmen Can Improve Their Vocabulary” includes anecdotes about the author’s personal college experience. Readers will never feel alone, or be led to believe that their vocabulary cannot be improved.

Dr. Clarence Branch, noted professor of English at Herbert H. Lehman College, shares his thoughts about the book: “It celebrates the joy of learning by making vocabulary building easy and fun. It’s filled with all types of unique-reading tasks; I found it universal and practical!”

“15 Easy and Fun Ways College Freshmen Can Improve Their Vocabulary” (ISBN-10: 1403394474, ISBN-13: 978-1403394477) is available on Amazon.com or directly from the publisher (www.AuthorHouse.com) for $9.50. The site provides a free preview, book and author information.
