NATCHEZ, Miss. — Natchez Pilgrimage Tours’ 30th annual Natchez Fall Pilgrimage showcases eighteen of the most splendid historic houses to be found anywhere in America from September 29 through October 13, 2007. For thirty years, Natchez has opened it arms to lovers of history, architecture and decorative arts during Natchez Fall Pilgrimage.

With more pre-1860 buildings than any other city of its size in the United States, Natchez offers living history as hostesses in hoopskirts escort guests on tours through 18th and 19th century country houses, suburban villas and grand mansions.

Most of these majestic and stately homes are privately owned and are only open to the public during the two week period of Natchez Fall Pilgrimage. In fact, several of the Fall Pilgrimage homes have been in the same families for over 150 years! Many of the homeowners delight in showing guests priceless family antiques and ephemera as well as sharing sometimes colorful stories about the family’s past. Visitors are welcomed to stroll through enchanting old private gardens and courtyards.

Natchez Fall Pilgrimage Evening entertainment is offered nightly. The “Mississippi Medicine Show” is a theatrical recreation of old steamboat times when traveling shows pedaled their miracle cures up and down the Mississippi river, accompanied by the top performing talents of the day. Dr. Morphineus Codeine Shingles touts his “Magic Wonderous Healing Oil, the Elixir of Life!” and brings with him his hilarious sidekick “Miss Scarlette,” Mark Twain and a group of performers singing popular music of the 1800′s. Classics by Stephen Foster, Jerome Kern, Roger Miller and spirituals are performed in period costume ands peppered with the wit and wisdom of Mark Twain.

“This original Natchez Little Theatre production, which has traveled from San Antonio to Philadelphia, has been entertaining audiences from around the world since 1976 and it continues to delight our Fall Pilgrimage visitors,” says Dr. James Coy III, director of Natchez Pilgrimage Tours. Shows Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays. Tickets $15.
