OCuSOFT, Inc. Names Lawrence A. Yannuzzi, M.D. to Medical Scientific Advisory Board
RICHMOND, Texas — CYNACON / OCuSOFT (OCuSOFT, Inc.), a company specializing in ophthalmic research, development and supply to ophthalmologists and optometrists, today announced the appointment of Lawrence A. Yannuzzi, M.D. to its Medical Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr. Yannuzzi is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical School, Vice-Chairman and Director of The Retinal Research Center of the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, and founder and president of The Macula Foundation, Inc.
He is a world-renowned retinal specialist who has published more than 300 scientific papers and 11 textbooks, with particular interest in diseases of the macula, such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
Dr. Yannuzzi has also been given awards and distinctions in his field for contributions on retinal imaging drug development, ophthalmic laser, and the diagnosis and treatment of macular and retinal diseases. His achievements have gained worldwide respect and admiration from his peers. Most recently, he was given an honorary doctorate at the University of Ancona, Italy, the Michelson Award for Retinal Vascular Disease in Gent, a distinguished alumnus award at Boston University, and a lifetime achievement award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In a joint statement, Cynthia L. Barratt, Co-Founder, President and CEO and Nat G. Adkins, Jr., Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, state, “We have had the good fortune to know and work with Dr. Yannuzzi for almost a quarter century. His addition to our already well-established Medical Advisory Board gives us great personal and professional pleasure. Dr. Yannuzzi is one of the great visionaries of vitreo-retinal ophthalmology. His strong leadership will guide us as we continue in the development of new products and in licensing initiatives.”
Patrick H. Witham, Executive Vice-President, will work closely with Dr. Yannuzzi in the coordination of Medical Scientific Advisory Board projects.
