Applied Business Software Inc. to Fight Copyright Infringement of The Mortgage Office(TM)

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Applied Business Software Inc., a market leader and global provider of software systems for the real estate industry, has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California that alleges copyright infringement, breach of contract and seeks specific performance of the termination provisions of a license.

The lawsuit (Case# 7/16/2007 2:07-cv-04584 JFW (Western Division – Los Angeles)), filed July 16, 2007, names ALLIED MORTGAGE & FINANCIAL CORPORATION a Florida corporation (“AMFC”) as the defendant. In the lawsuit, ABS claims AMFC violated a licensing agreement between ABS and AMFC. According to the lawsuit, multiple unauthorized copies of The Mortgage Office(TM) software had been installed or used on unlicensed computers.

Software piracy is against the law. It can result in statutory damages of up to $30,000 per instance of unintentional and unauthorized use of each of the copyrighted programs, and up to $150,000 per instance of intentional and unauthorized use of each copyrighted program.
