BOCA RATON, Fla. — A customer-focused company that entered Florida’s homeowners insurance market pledging to lower premiums and treat consumers fairly has saved policy holders an estimated $14 million in annual fees midway through its first year of business. Boca Raton-based People’s Trust Insurance Company (peoplestrustinsurance.com) has made good on its promise, providing the lowest average premiums in Florida, according to the state’s shop and compare website (shopandcomparerates.com). By working directly with the consumer (eliminating agents, sales commissions, and other middlemen), removing unnecessary or redundant coverage, and helping customers proactively safeguard their homes, the company reduces costs and risk and passes the savings along to homeowners throughout the state.

Nearly 13,000 Florida homeowners have selected People’s Trust and, depending on the county where they live, saved hundreds or thousands of dollars on what they previously paid annually for the same policy.

“For years we watched our premiums go up, even though we have never put in a claim,” said Sharon Wolfe of Boynton Beach. “Looking for some relief, my husband, Barry, and I called People’s Trust. We were overjoyed to learn we could save over $1,000 by switching, so we did!”

“Traditional insurance companies have layers and layers of cost they pass on to the consumer,” said Michael Gold, chief executive officer of People’s Trust Insurance Company. “We’re the opposite. We’re nimble, streamlined, and without the obvious excess, so we can offer the exact same coverage, or better, for much less.”

Gold’s claim is verified on the State of Florida’s insurance price website, with posted premiums for each insurance company based on filings with the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR). In Martin County, for example, People’s Trust customers pay $1,840 for the same homeowners policy that would cost $4,883 with State Farm, the state’s largest insurer. A similar contrast in cost impacts consumers in Sarasota, with State Farm’s premium higher by more than $2,000 per year than People’s Trust on an identical policy (a Florida masonry home built in 1990, current replacement value of $150,000, $500 non-hurricane deductible, 2% hurricane deductible, no claims in the past 3 years or wind mitigation credits).

“Our employees and I live in Florida and have been affected by the same rising costs and difficult economy that have hurt other residents,” said Gold. “We’re all consumers who want the same thing – a quality product at a fair price. That’s the philosophy that People’s Trust was founded on and that’s what we live every day.”
