SAN JOSE, Calif. — LuraTech announces a new optional module for the LuraDocument(R) PDF Compressor that is designed to convert digital documents – such as Microsoft Office, Outlook e-mail and PDFs – into PDF/A format for long-term archiving. The Born Digital module enables users to easily batch process digital files, in the same way that scanned paper documents can be processed with the PDF Compressor. “LuraTech continues to enhance its document conversion solutions with the features vital to businesses that must maintain their records electronically for years,” said Mark McKinney, LuraTech’s president.

“With the move in businesses to become all ‘paperless,’ our Born Digital capabilities will enable the PDF Compressor to offer them an end-to-end solution for converting both scanned and born digital documents into PDF/A.”

By supporting PDF/A, the PDF Compressor provides users with the assurance that documents are archived in a format that will maintain their appearance and readability indefinitely, no matter which applications or systems were used to create them.

LuraTech’s full-featured PDF Compressor – including the Born Digital module – is easy to install and operate, and can be seamlessly integrated into existing workflows. The document conversion solution can reliably run unattended for both scanned paper and born digital documents. The PDF Compressor can convert color, grayscale or black-and-white documents into high-quality, highly compressed PDF and PDF/A files using LuraTech’s best-in-class mixed raster content (MRC) technology. It also offers an integrated ABBYY FineReader OCR engine for full text search capabilities in all PDF and PDF/A files.

Additional Enhancements

Earlier this month, LuraTech introduced free-form recognition capabilities for its optional Form Recognition Module. With free-form recognition, specific data – even if it appears in different places on the page from document to document – can be recognized and extracted, supporting automatic classification of semi-structured documents. These enhancements enable the PDF Compressor to identify and sort a wide variety of documents, read and extract the appropriate information and then prepare this information for input into other applications, such as merchandise management or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
