WARRINGTON, Pa. — Special Equestrians is proud to announce our partnership with the Philadelphia Race Park. Special Equestrians will be providing stall rest to injured race horses. These horses will be part of our Youth Connections Program for At-Risk Youth. “Our vulnerable youth will be introduced to the plight of these vulnerable horses with the goal of developing a greater empathy for these horses,” says Tammy Westney, Executive Director of Special Equestrians. “This new component will be in addition to the Therapeutic Riding and job-readiness skills we are already providing. We began implementing this program five years ago, and we are very excited to off this additional component.”

Youth Connections ProgramThe first race horse, Goodman’s Girl, arrived in October, the second, El Frio, arrived last week. They are beautiful, horses with serious injuries. Their recuperation will be time and labor intensive. Special Equestrians has received scholarships for the children in the Youth Connections Program, but the horses are still in need of sponsorship.

Sponsorship funds cover the cost of medication, veterinary bills, feed, and other costs associated with the care and maintenance of a horse. All sponsorships are fully tax deductible and will be recognized on our website, in our newsletter and on the horses’ stall.

Special Equestrians, a Forbes Enterprise Award winner, is a 501(c)3 non-profit Therapeutic Riding Program located at 2800 Street Road in Warrington, Pennsylvania. Our mission is to improve the physical, mental, and emotional well being of individuals with disabilities through the equine experience.

Founded in 1982 Special Equestrians has grown from a one horse, one rider, one volunteer program to a thriving organization with 9 horses, 17 staff members, and over 100 volunteers serving 125 children and adults with emotional, mental and physical disabilities each year.
