hernia repairMINNEAPOLIS, Minn. /eNewsChannels/ — Minnesota Medical Development, Inc. (MMDI) today announced that it has been named as one of the “Top 50 Companies to Watch” in the medical device industry by Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry (MD+DI) magazine. MMDI was chosen because of its ability to achieve success and also for its ability to manufacture products that have the potential to revolutionize care practices. Nominations for the honor were solicited by the editors of MD+DI and included readers, their Editorial and Reader Advisory Boards, as well as industry observers.

Information was meticulously analyzed and debated amongst the editors of MD+DI magazine until a short list of the “The Top 50 Companies to Watch” was compiled. The list is not a ranking, nor does it delineate the top, best, or most likely to succeed in the medical device industry – it is a list of companies making an outstanding contribution to healthcare and that are expected to continue doing so.

MMDI manufactures the Rebound HRD, which is intended to assist in the repair and/or reinforcement of hernia or other soft tissue defects where weakness exists and where the support of a nonabsorbable material is preferred. The Rebound HRD is the only self-expanding Nitinol framed hernia repair device that is ideally suited for laparoscopic or open incisional hernia repair. The super-elastic Nitinol frame allows the device to be folded and inserted laparoscopically or through a small incision. Once deployed, the device fully unfurls or “rebounds” back to its original shape – ready for quick and easy placement over the hernia defect. The Rebound HRD conforms to the anatomy while providing stability; eliminating the need for anchoring, which in turn, minimizes patient post-op discomfort and the risk of nerve/blood vessel injury.

“There are many companies within the list of top fifty that MMDI has admired as peers and fellow pioneers in their respective niche. It is truly an honor to be acknowledged by industry experts and readers as being among the best at innovating and contributing to improve the quality of healthcare – all over the world,” said MMDI Chief Marketing Officer, Steve Nuss. “In the United States alone, over 900,000 inguinal and ventral hernias are repaired annually using surgical meshes. Industry experts are predicting steady growth in that number as the baby boomer generation continues to age and the incidence of obesity increases,” he added.
