SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — California Recovery Task Force Director Rick Rice yesterday (Sept. 22) issued the following statement regarding the California Energy Commission’s approval of $33 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funding for the California Statewide Community Development Authority (CSCDA). This funding will be used by the CSCDA to launch Energy Upgrade California, a comprehensive statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy building improvement program.

“I applaud the California Energy Commission’s actions today providing funding to the California Statewide Community Development Authority to administer Energy Upgrade California. This project will allow property owners and contractors to readily take advantage of the long-term benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy property improvements by streamlining information, incentives, rebates and financing options. With this award, the California Energy Commission has encumbered all of its Recovery Act funding.”

Energy Upgrade California, which will launch in the coming weeks, will represent an unprecedented collaboration between the California Energy Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission, investor-owned utilities, local governments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector to promote and finance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for homes and businesses, stimulate market demand, reduce energy use and create new local jobs. Governor Schwarzenegger created the California Recovery Task Force to track the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding coming into the state; work with President Barack Obama’s administration; help cities, counties, non-profits, and others access the available funding; ensure that the funding funneled through the state is spent efficiently and effectively; and maintain a Web site (www.recovery.ca.gov) that is frequently and thoroughly updated for Californians to be able to track the stimulus dollars.
