WASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — For the first time ever, the U.S. Department of State’s SportsUnited exchange program is teaming up with the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) to host 11 young adults from Bahrain and Qatar for a motorsports exchange in Charlotte, North Carolina and Miami, Florida from November 15 – 23, 2010.
In Charlotte, the delegation comprised of young adults involved in auto racing as drivers, mechanics, and car or track performance technicians will visit the new NASCAR Hall of Fame, receive briefings on NASCAR research and development, track safety, crew diversity and community and family involvement. They will then travel to Miami to attend the final Camping World Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series races of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Bahraini and Qatari youth will also visit a local high school to learn more about NASCAR’s local community outreach initiatives.
SportsUnited programs aid youth in discovering how success in athletics can be translated into the development of life skills and achievement in the classroom. Since 2003, SportsUnited has brought more than 600 athletes from 44 countries to the U.S. to participate in sports visitor programs.
