Calif. Governor Brown Announces Appointments for June 25, 2012

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Dean Grafilo, 40, of West Sacramento, has been appointed to the California State Athletic Commission. Grafilo has been the associate government relations director at the California Medical Association since 2009.

He served as chief of staff to Assemblymember Warren Furutani from 2008 to 2009 and as senior legislative assistant for Assemblymember Alberto Torrico from 2004 to 2008. Grafilo was an organizer representative for Service Employees International Union Local 925 from 2003 to 2004 and an organizer for International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142 from 1996 to 2001. Grafilo earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Grafilo is a Democrat.

Dale Hoffman-Floerke, 56, of Davis, has been appointed chief deputy director at the California Department of Water Resources. She has served as acting deputy director for delta and statewide water management since 2010. Hoffman-Floerke has worked in multiple positions at the Department of Water Resources since 1980, including chief for the division of environmental services, chief for the Colorado river and Salton sea office, chief for the environmental compliance and evaluation branch, recreation and wildlife resources advisor and senior environmental scientist. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $140,004. Hoffman-Floerke is a Democrat.

Adelina Zendejas, 52, of Woodland, has been appointed assistant secretary of broadband and digital literacy at the California Technology Agency. Zendejas has been a data processing manager III at the State Board of Equalization since 2004. She was chief information officer at the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board from 2002 to 2004, a data processing manager III at the California Department of Finance in 2002 and a project executive and special assistant to the director at the Department of Information and Technology Services from 2001 to 2002. She held multiple positions with the Department of Information Technology from 1997 to 2001, including deputy director, data processing manager II, and senior information systems analyst. Zendejas was a staff information systems analyst in 1997 and an associate information systems analyst from 1992 to 1997 at the Health and Human Services Agency Data Center. She was a staff information systems analyst at the California Department of Social Services from 1987 to 1992. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $110,004. Zendejas is a Democrat.

Mark Cowin, 53, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Western States Water Council. Cowin has served in multiple positions at the California Department of Water Resources since 1981, including director, deputy director and junior civil engineer. He is a licensed civil engineer and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Cowin is a Democrat.

Thomas Howard, 56, of Davis, has been appointed to the Western States Water Council. Howard has served in multiple positions at the State Water Resources Control Board since 1992, including executive director, deputy director and senior water resources control engineer. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Howard is a Democrat

Paul Brazelton, 49, of Coalinga, has been appointed warden at Pleasant Valley State Prison. Brazelton has served in multiple positions at Pleasant Valley State Prison since 1994, including acting warden, chief deputy administrator, correctional administrator, correctional captain, correctional lieutenant and correctional sergeant. He served as a correctional sergeant at Calipatria State Prison from 1991 to 1994 and as a correctional officer at the Deuel Vocational Institution from 1984 to 1991. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $130,668. Brazelton is a Republican.

Daniel Paramo, 51, of San Diego, has been appointed warden at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. He has served as acting warden at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility since 2011. Paramo was chief deputy warden from 2008 to 2011 and associate warden from 2006 to 2008 at Centinela State Prison. He served in multiple positions at Calipatria State Prison from 1991 to 2006, including facility captain, classification and parole representative, correctional counselor and community resource manager. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $130,668. Paramo is a Democrat.
