SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Rody Boonchouy, 34, of Vacaville, has been appointed to the California Concurrence Committee. Boonchouy has been the principal at the Da Vinci Charter Academy since 2011. He was a school design and implementation coach at New Tech Network from 2010 to 2011 and worked at Da Vinci Charter Academy as an instructional support provider from 2008 to 2009 and lead teacher from 2003 to 2007.
Boonchouy was a teacher at Rubidoux High School from 2001 to 2003. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Boonchouy is a Democrat.
Diane Fazzi, 50, of La Cañada, has been appointed to the Advisory Commission on Special Education. Fazzi has been acting associate dean at California State University, Los Angeles since 2011, where she has served in multiple positions since 1992, including division chair of special education and counseling and professor in special education with specialization in the area of visual impairments. Fazzi was a teacher at the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind from 1988 to 1989 and special education teacher at the Los Angeles County Office of Education from 1986 to 1988. Fazzi earned a doctorate degree in special education and educational psychology at the California State University, Los Angeles and University of California, Los Angeles joint doctoral program. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Fazzi is a Democrat.
Gina Plate, 43, of San Diego has been appointed to the Advisory Commission on Special Education. Plate has served as senior advisor for special education at the California Charter Schools Association since 2009. She served as director of education at the Seneca Center from 1996 to 2010. Plate earned a Master of Special Education degree at the University of San Diego. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Plate is a Democrat.
Mariano Sanz, 50, of Long Beach, has been appointed to the Advisory Commission on Special Education. Sanz has worked as a school counselor at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District since 2001. He served as a school counselor at the Long Beach Unified School District from 1994 to 2001, school counselor at the Paramount Unified School District from 1990 to 1994 and elementary school teacher at the Los Angeles Unified School District from 1987 to 1990. Sanz is a member of the Harbor Regional Center Board of Trustees, where he has served in multiple roles since 1992. He earned a Master of Science degree in school psychology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain and a Master of Science degree in school counseling from National University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Sanz is not registered to vote.
Carlos Ulloa, 44, of Carlsbad, has been appointed to the Instructional Quality Commission. Ulloa was director of curriculum and instruction at the San Ysidro School District from 2008 until 2012. He has served as a senior educational consultant for Consortium on Reading Excellence since 2008. Ulloa was principal at the Chula Vista Elementary School District from 2005 to 2008 and principal at the San Francisco Unified School District from 2004 to 2005. He served in multiple positions at the Escondido Union School District from 1993 to 2004, including teacher, parent involvement specialist and assistant principal. He was an adjunct professor at California State University, San Marcos from 1998 to 2000. Ulloa earned a Master of Education degree from Harvard University and is a doctoral candidate in educational leadership at the University of California, Los Angeles.
