California Gov. BrownSACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, David Gordon, 66, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. Gordon has been county superintendent at the Sacramento County Office of Education since 2004.

Gordon served at the Elk Grove Unified School District as superintendent from 1995 to 2004 and assistant superintendent for elementary education from 1991 to 1995. Gordon worked at the California Department of Education as deputy superintendent from 1985 to 1991 and associate superintendent from 1983 to 1985. He earned a Master of Education degree from Harvard University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Gordon is a Democrat.

LeeAnne Mallel, 41, of Calabasas, has been appointed to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. Mallel has been a psychological technician at the Office of Dr. Jonine Biesman and a developmental floortime specialist in private practice since 2011. She was a behavior interventionist for Verdugo Hills Autism Project from 2009 to 2011 and a senior buyer at 99 Cent Only Stores from 2001 to 2006. Mallel was a private label buyer at eToys from 2000 to 2001 and a buyer at Lakeshore Learning Materials from 1999 to 2000. She was sales manager at Crate and Barrel from 1998 to 1999 and sales manager and product developer for Global Amici from 1993 to 1998. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mallel is a Democrat.

Larry Poaster, 69, of Modesto, has been appointed to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission, where he has served since 2007. Poaster has been a behavioral health consultant since 2003. He served in various positions for Stanislaus County from 1970 to 2003, including director of behavioral health and recovery services and clinical director. Poaster is a member of the California Institute for Mental Health Board of Directors and earned a doctorate degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Poaster is a Democrat.

Cheryl Roberts, 43, of Alta Loma, has been appointed to the California Building Standards Commission. Roberts has served in various positions at the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District since 1992, including battalion chief, fire captain, fire academy coordinator and paramedic. Roberts was a fire academy ladder instructor with Mt. San Antonio College Fire Academy from 1998 to 2003 and a seasonal wildland firefighter for the United States Forest Service in 1990. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Roberts is a Republican.
