Calif. Governor Brown Announces Appointments for Jan. 18, 2013 including California State Board of Food and Agriculture

Calif. Governor BrownSACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: first, Rex Hime, 64, of Loomis, has been appointed to the California State Fair and Exposition Board of Directors, where he has been a member since 1996. Hime has been president and chief executive officer at the California Business Properties Association since 1984.

Hime was senior assistant to the minority caucus chairman at the California State Assembly from 1983 to 1984 and held multiple positions at the California Commission for Economic Development from 1979 to 1983, including executive director and deputy director. Hime earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hime is a Republican.

Hallie Muller, 26, of Brooks, has been appointed to the California State Fair and Exposition Board of Directors. Muller has been director of outreach and education at Full Belly Farm since 2009. She is secretary of the Ecological Farming Association and a member of the Agriculture and Food Alliance. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Muller is a Democrat.

Bryce Lundberg, 51, of Butte, has been appointed to the California State Board of Food and Agriculture. Lundberg has been owner and partner at B and E Lundberg Farm since 1985 and has held multiple positions at Lundberg Family Farms since 1985, including owner, vice president of agriculture, director of organic certification and board member. He currently serves as chair of the Northern California Water Association and is a government affairs committee member at California Certified Organic Farmers. Lundberg is also a board member of the Western Canal Water District and of the California Farm Water Coalition. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Lundberg is a Democrat.

Miles Reiter, 63, of Aptos, has been appointed to the California State Board of Food and Agriculture, where he has been a member since 2011. Reiter worked at Driscoll Strawberry Associates Inc. as chief executive officer since 2000 and chairman since 1988. He was president at Aptos Berry Farms Inc. from 1977 to 2000. Reiter served on the Produce Marketing Association Board of Directors from 2007 to 2010 and on the retail board from 2003 to 2006. He served on the Western Growers Association Board of Directors from 2002 to 2009. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Reiter is a Republican.

Ronald Brown, 63, Oroville, has been appointed administrator at the Veterans Home of California in Redding. Brown has been a nursing home administrator at the Yuba Skilled Nursing Center since 2010. He was a nursing home administrator at Riverside HealthCare from 2006 to 2009 and a skilled nursing facility administrator at Health Care Management Inc. from 2003 to 2006. Brown was chief operating officer at Sunny View Lutheran Homes in 2002 and a nursing home administrator at Olive Vista from 1980 to 2002. He served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1972. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $98,844. Brown is registered decline-to-state.

Sharon Hilliard, 48, of El Dorado Hills, has been appointed chief deputy at the California Employment Development Department. Hilliard has worked in multiple positions at the Employment Development Department since 1983, including deputy director of the Tax Branch, chief of the Field Audit and Compliance Division, chief of the Tax Processing and Accounting Division, chief of Field Audit and Compliance Division–Central Operations and chief of Central Operations and Underground Economy. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $128,064. Hilliard is registered decline-to-state.

Mandi Kindred, 44, of Blue Lake, has been appointed to the 9th District Agricultural Association, Redwood Acres Fair Board. Kindred has held multiple positions at Blue Lake Casino and Hotel since 2002, including general manager and casino manager. She is president of Soroptimist International of McKinleyville and a member of the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and of the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau Marketing Board. Kindred is also a member of the Eureka Elks Lodge and of the McKinleyville Moose Lodge. This position does not require senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Kindred is a Democrat.

Gareth Lacy, 31, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy secretary of communications and strategic planning at the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency. Lacy has been a senior research associate at the Office of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. since 2011. He was editor-in-chief of the Washington Journal of Law, Technology and Arts from 2010 to 2011. Lacy was press secretary at the Office of Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. from 2006 to 2008 and deputy campaign manager at Brown for Attorney General from 2005 to 2006. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho from 2003 to 2005. Lacy earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Washington School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $112,008. Lacy is a Democrat.
