YORK, Pa. — Congero Development, LLC, announced today the start of construction on the Iain Mackenzie Medical Plaza, a new destination health care campus in York, Penn. The 7.3 acre project will include Brookeside Surgical Arts at York, a state-of-the-art Medicare certified and Joint Commission accredited Ambulatory Surgery Facility. Located at 2050 South Queen Street at the former Blazenet site, the Iain Mackenzie Medical Plaza will include three medical buildings, the first of which houses 8,100 square feet of medical office space plus an additional 16,500 square feet for the Ambulatory Surgery Facility.

The plaza is intended to bring together existing and needed services in one convenient location for residents. The namesake of the project, Dr. Iain Mackenzie, is a long-time area physician and was one of the first gastroenterologists in the area. Now retired, he founded Digestive Disease Center which is among the first committed tenants at the new medical plaza.

Brookeside Surgical Arts at York is being developed in partnership with local surgeons as an innovative, multi-specialty surgical facility. Brookeside will be housed in the first medical building on the property and includes six operating rooms with private recovery and step down areas. Designed by award winning medical architecture firm Antony C. Pings and Associates, Brookeside will bring together functional aesthetics with the most sophisticated surgical and infection control technologies available.

“We are pleased that construction has begun and, together with our partners, we are building a surgical campus to suit the emerging needs of both the community’s patients and physicians,” said Bruce Wallace, CEO of Congero Development. “The end result will be a wealth of new medical and surgical resources in the area all designed to provide the highest level of patient care, with the best possible outcomes. We appreciate all the efforts of the York Township staff during the entitlement process and are grateful for their cooperation with our design team to make this project a reality.”

Construction on the property has begun with the demolition of existing buildings and infrastructure. Vertical building is expected to be visible by March. The medical offices are anticipated to be complete in October, with the surgery center tracking toward a November opening. New ancillary medical ventures are expected to be attracted to the property to better serve the community, and several York-based physician groups are negotiating to be housed at the site.
