Secretary of State John KerryBOSTON, Mass. /eNewsChannels/ — Today, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry made the following statement about the Boston Marathon bombing tragedy: “The entire State Department family joins President Obama in offering our deepest condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of all those killed and injured in the April 15 attacks in Boston.

“As a Bostonian, this cowardly act of terrorism hit home on a personal level, and has only continued to sadden and anger me these last two days as I’ve talked with Mayor Menino and close friends whose loved ones were among the injured. It defies words to hear of children killed and horribly maimed on the streets of my city. It is sickening to see my home turned into a place of carnage on a Patriots Day holiday that I’ve always associated with the best of my state and country. But I am also reminded that in the selfless rush of first responders and ordinary citizens into the smoke and haze to help people they didn’t even know, that the heart of Boston beat stronger than ever before.

As Secretary of State, I would underscore that this attack on America was also an attack on people everywhere, as the Boston Marathon has always been an international event that brings countries and peoples closer together. We share in the tragic loss of one young Chinese citizen killed that awful day, and all foreign nationals who have been injured. State Department officials have been in contact with the Chinese victim’s family in China, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chinese officials in the United States, to convey our condolences and offer our assistance. We stand ready to provide whatever appropriate assistance we can to the family members of foreign nationals in the aftermath of this despicable act of terror.
