LA MESA, Calif. — LegalizeFerrets.org, an organization of people interested in legalizing ferrets in California, is conducting their second annual YouTube Video Contest. Nine videos have been entered and the only prize is $500 cash. Entries range from the “I had to leave my ferrets behind when I moved to California” to creative ferret disguises. According to the organization: “But the pain is evident, we love our ferrets and we want to be able to move freely about with them.”

Ferrets AnonymousLegalizeFerrets.org is conducting an Environmental Impact Report as required from the California Department of Fish and Game. Their mailing list and support continue to grow and the video contest is a great expression of the hope, pain and fear California ferret enthusiasts live with.

www.LegalizeFerrets.org is a grass roots organization working to legalize ferrets in California. Ferrets are illegal in only two states, California and Hawaii. The ban has caused a huge emotional toll on ferret owners in California and ferret owners who find themselves moving to the state.

According to PIJAC, the nation’s leading pet trade organization, California has the nation’s largest population of pet domestic ferrets – yet California has resisted efforts to legalize them. Over the past three years LegalizeFerrets.org has continued to grow and is now working on an Environmental Impact Report.

“We believe that scientific research combined with grass roots activism will get our little guys legalized.”
