NEWS: For families who have children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and/or Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), managing conflict in the home in a way that builds trust can be extremely challenging. In response, the Ranch for Kids, a therapeutic program bringing hope and healing to families facing FASD and RAD, announced today a weekend workshop to train parents in effective, compassionate de-escalation techniques.

The training, set for October 23 through October 23, at the Ranch for Kids’ facility in Rexford, Mont. will center on the Mandt System(R) principles. The Mandt System(R) is a widely respected system used by foster and adoptive families working to build trust with children who have previously endured trauma, abandonment or other damaging early-life experiences.

The Ranch for Kids successfully uses the Mandt System(R) every day to build trust in relationships, maintain healthy boundaries, and aid in the healing process. The Mandt System is a “comprehensive, integrated approach to preventing, de-escalating and, if necessary, intervening when the behavior of an individual poses a threat of harm to themselves and/or others.” This system helps equip parents to manage and effectively de-escalate conflicts in the home.

The Ranch for Kids’ Mandt System training weekend will launch Friday, October 23 at 6 p.m. with a meet-and-greet and will conclude on Sunday, October 25 at 1 p.m. Bill Sutley, a certified Mandt System trainer and Executive Director of the Ranch for Kids, will lead the training. The weekend will include classroom training and workshops, parent networking, and recreational time to spend with your children.

The cost to attend the weekend training is $600 per couple or $300 per person. The nearby Riverstone Lodge ( http://www.riverstonefamilylodge.com ) will offer lodging starting at $79 per night, plus a 7 percent lodging tax. The Ranch for Kids will provide complimentary transportation to and from the Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell for parents flying into the Flathead Valley.

The training is open to families with children currently in the Ranch for Kids program and those who formally have participated in the program.
