LOS ANGELES, Calif. — From the very first page, to the final departing scene, “The Unbearable Sadness of Zilch” (ISBN: 9781440158261) by Konrad Ventana is a riveting narrative that shines a detective’s flashlight into the darkest of reaches of the human mind. Only this time it is not the usual hard-boiled Private Detective who is called upon to find some hidden Truth, it is the philosophical practitioner or “Perspicuous Eye” who is called upon to find the lost Beauty. In this latest book release, Ventana (www.konradventana.com) takes the reader behind the curtains into the fabulous theatrical world of Hollywood’s most accomplished movie moguls, who are striving to embrace the ultimate sources of their creativity, while they struggle with their own psychological demons.

Not since Nathanael West’s The Day of the Locust and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Last Tycoon has Hollywood and the motion picture industry been seen in such a bold and illuminating light. Brimming with sexual intrigue, eye-widening spectacle, and a host of recognizable characters, this latest release by Konrad Ventana sets a new standard of relevance and transcendence in postmodern literary fiction as it raises the bar for visual special effects (VFX). A must-read anyone who loves Hollywood stories, mystery novels, and classic literature, although the ultra-contemporary setting of this astounding new novel feels like it all happened just yesterday.

A compelling work of social criticism, The Unbearable Sadness of Zilch is a treatise on existentialism, modernism, and the emergence of a radical new brand of feminism: the feminist provocateur. Set in Hollywood Neo-noir, and guided by an intrepid philosophical counselor (or life coach), we investigate The Lost Love of the Latest Tycoon, examining the role of the muse, the magnificent intemperate impulses of the femme fatale, and the allure of the casting couch, as we witness the fall of an empire in the twilight of the egoists. Blazing with eye-opening drama, keen psychological and insights, and layers of literary pyrotechnics, not to mention VFX, the reader is at once awed and entertained by this post-lux piece de resistance.

About the Author:

Using the pseudonym Konrad Ventana, literally “Bold Counsel through a Window,” the author looks behind the scenes at the ideologies of our modern times and examines the potential for future development. This is the second book of The Post-Lux Trilogy (on artistic creativity), the first of which received Editors Choice and Rising Star awards.

Many people work hard and struggle to survive. Others do things in a certain way and have all the wealth and fame. Marty has combined the knowledge of many motivational books, tapes, courses, and lectures. He feels in essence, everyone is saying the same thing in different ways. By reading his booklet in thirty minutes or less, people will reap the benefit of reading many books which could amount to thousands of pages.

By using this concise, easy to read booklet, individuals will learn how to discover and accomplish anything and everything they desire.

According to Marty, it is said that only five percent of the world population is motivated and working toward achieving their goals. This means that ninety-five percent of the population does not have a plan. It is also said that the high achievers who comprise that top five percent, have ninety-five percent of the world’s wealth. Marty wants to put the reader in this five percent by allowing him or her to read this “Recipe For Success.” If enough people can transform their way of thinking, it is our hope and dream that we can increase the elite five percent to ten.

Marty has done research for the past thirty years in order to write this booklet for the benefit of mankind. He can teach people how to set and accomplish their goals, solve everyday problems, overcome procrastination by using perseverance, and to truly become successful.

At the end of this booklet, he made it possible for the reader to write their living legacy by answering a few pointed questions which will change and improve their lives. It will spell out exactly who they are, what they feel inside, and where they want to go. After they take a little time to fill in the blanks, one of the great secrets of life will become evident. In fact, their entire life will change.

It is his goal that everyone who reads this “Rx For Success,” will undergo a life altering change. He wants to help individuals help themselves to achieve their goals and elevate their position in life.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Bed bugs are not just a “dirty little secret” anymore. On April 15, The EPA suggested that the growing U.S. bed bug problem should be classified as an epidemic. And the costs of dealing with this epidemic can be staggering. “Bed bugs are reclusive, their eggs and babies are clear and microscopic, they spread fast through homes and hotels alike and the cost of treating in time, money and mental anguish can become extremely expensive,” said Diana Sosa, co-owner of Tennessee based Dog Inspectors.

“The costs of controlling and treating are much greater than simply spraying a room,” says Sosa. “Take a hotel room for example, treatment protocols require that all adjacent rooms be treated as well, some of the furniture in these rooms should be removed and destroyed, the rooms will be out-of-service for a period of time and then there are the guest costs such as replacing clothing, personal items and luggage as well as reimbursement for the cost of the room, and this is just the beginning.” There is the very real possibility of a law suit resulting in monetary compensation and legal fees along with negative media attention and brand erosion which can be devastating for any hotel or living facility.

Estimates place the cost of a bed bug incident in a single room to be as much as $6,000 to $7,000, not including potential litigation or the cost of negative public perception. And these costs rise exponentially if the problem is allowed to spread.

Chuck Nelson, co-owner of Dog Inspectors says, “The key to controlling the costs is to find them early and often. We have experienced a significant increase in the number of bed bug inspections, both residential and commercial, in recent months. Hotels, apartment complexes, retirement homes, furniture rental companies, college dormitories are all vulnerable. This problem is growing and we don’t expect it to go away anytime soon.”

In the EPA’s National Bed Bug Summit Participant Recommendations (April 15, 2009) it was recommended that, “Bed bugs need to be moved to the top of the list…. Preventative and ongoing inspection is necessary to address the problem….” This is the only way to protect against a widespread infestation and its associated costs.

Nelson explains, “Bed bugs are very difficult to detect with the naked eye by even the most skilled and trained inspector, they lay up to 5 eggs per day and can survive as long as a year on one feeding. Making matters worse, there are no currently effective treatments to kill their eggs. So it is easy to see just how quickly a bed bug problem can get out of hand.” Another factor which compounds the detection problem is that only 30 percent of the population is allergic to bed bugs which can conceal an existing problem for long periods of time. This delay has resulted in numerous cases in which the costs of treating widespread, full scale infestations has run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Nelson points out, “The EPA recommended that instituting regular and on-going preventative inspections is imperative to find and treat problems early. We also strongly maintain that re-inspections after treatment are vital to determine that no eggs have since hatched and that the bugs have been eradicated.”

More than 10 years of research both here and abroad has confirmed that one of the most effective technologies available for bed bug detection is trained and certified dogs. According to Sosa, “…a dog’s keen, superior sense of smell enables them to locate bed bugs that are virtually invisible to the naked eye with better than 95 percent accuracy and to do it very quickly. They can even distinguish between live and dead bugs making them an invaluable tool in the fight against this growing epidemic.”

Dog Inspectors is the first company in Tennessee to use specially trained and certified dogs to inspect both commercial and residential dwellings for bed bugs. This service is the most accurate, efficient and honest method of finding bed bugs. Dog Inspectors provides detection services only and does not treat infestations. They serve surrounding states throughout the mid-west and southeastern United States.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — December of 2004 was a tough time for Tiffany Heinzelman, wife of one of the founders of the Financial Foundation Group. She was just 34 years old; had a 2 year old daughter at home and a husband who was opening a new branch office. Tiffany had just returned from a family vacation and discovered a lump under her right arm pit. Blood tests were done and calmed her initial fear; her white cells were fine so it was not cancer or an infection. The lump was then biopsied only to learn that she had a rare and fairly aggressive form of breast cancer. Through a full year of surgery (a double mastectomy), radiation and 2 rounds of chemotherapy she has survived.

Tiffany Heinzelman is not one to sit around and just be thankful. Since her bout with cancer she has decided not only to fight back, but also to give back. She has been involved with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure ever since. “She was barely growing her hair back and barely able to stand on her own, yet she was determined to walk the Race for the Cure, to show she beat it and to be there for others who were still struggling,” says her husband, Charles Heinzelman. “I of course had to support her even though I was worried how she would do.” Tiffany not only walked that day, she has walked every walk since.

This past Saturday morning at 6 a.m., Tiffany and her supporters woke and prepared themselves for the annual Race for the Cure in San Antonio. There they gathered along with 28,974 others to raise money to support the vision of Nancy G. Brinker – a world without breast cancer. They walked and they helped to raise over $1,000,000 towards this cause.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly Susan G. Komen breast Cancer Foundation, was established in 1982. The organization began as a promise between Nancy G. Brinker and her sister Susan G. Komen who died of breast cancer at the age of 36. Komen has invested nearly $1 billion in breast cancer research and community outreach programs, becoming one of the world’s largest sources of funds fighting breast cancer.

Founded in 1997, Komen San Antonio has raised and invested more than $8 million. Seventy-five percent has funded local breast cancer programs that provide vital services to the medically under-served of San Antonio, Texas. The remaining twenty-five percent supports international breast cancer research through the Komen Award and Research Grant Program which supports groundbreaking breast cancer research and scientific programs around the world.

In 2002, the Financial Foundation Group through an affiliated company opened its doors with just three people. FFG has experienced a phenomenal growth rate over the past few years and today they have grown to have offices across the United States and approximately 65 people affiliated with the organization.

“I attribute our company’s growth to our involvement with every community we come into contact with,” Mr. Heinzelman, Senior Partner at Financial Foundation Group explains. “We always give back to our communities and I highly encourage that with every person we bring on board. Today we walked not only for my wife, but for our corporate accountant Kim Wheeler, also a survivor, and we walked for every mother, sister and daughter so that they may know a world without breast cancer.”

The management of the Financial Foundation Group is also registered representatives with and offer securities through NEXT Financial Group, Inc., member FINRA, SIPC. Financial Foundation Group is not an affiliate of NEXT Financial Group, inc. NEXT is a national full service Broker/Dealer offering investment, retirement and insurance products and services which allows their representatives to offer financial products to suit each individual client’s needs.

The knowledgeable staff at FFG has access to a wide array of investment products and can provide assistance with life insurance choices and providing wealth building strategies.

The company’s Web site, FinancialFoundationGroup.com has current market information and summaries for clients to review. It also provides breaking financial news and the top Associated Press headlines and stories. Also, they have charitable events page if you wish to participate or donate or show support for next year’s walk on May 1st, 2010.

TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec — Throughout Narconon history there has been much dedication from so many people working together to get Narconon where it is today. When Narconon founder William Benitez founded the Narconon program in 1966, he was still within the prison walls of the Arizona State Prison. Although his sentence was carried out and served, like most inmates at the time he was looking at it in more detail. Through his own research he soon discovered that he was put on trial under an incorrect statute.

Because of this mistake he was able to return back to court, and was told by the court he was to be re-sentenced with time served and then re-released with time served.

Because Narconon at the time was only a few months old, Mr. Benitez felt if he was released too soon, and did not remain in the prison, the Narconon program would not be a success. Will did not ask the court for an early release, instead he formally requested a shorter sentence in order to finish his work on the Narconon program. After the court agreed upon the request, Mr. Benitez was re-sentenced, and would be released within a 16-month period. This would have given Will the time needed to finish his work on the Narconon program. “It was the best, but toughest decision I ever made in my life, I would have loved to walk away from court a free man,” commented Mr. Benitez at the time.

When word got out that a prisoner of the Arizona State Prison turned down the opportunity to get released, it became a major news story amongst Arizona State newspapers and television stations. In fact, a local television station acquired permission from the prison warden at the time, Frank Eyman, to interview Mr. Benitez and some students of the first Narconon therapy group.

In 1967, William Benitez was formally released from the Arizona State Prison, and then moved to California. It was in California that Will and his staff continued to receive help and guidance from L. Ron Hubbard, whose writings Will had based his unique treatment approach on, of raising and increasing abilities, later resulting in complete recovery for any drug or alcohol addiction. California was also the place where Mr. Benitez and his staff started the first residential Narconon program. Through the dedication of one selfless man, his staff, local Scientologists, and hundreds of volunteers, the Narconon network has grown into 150 different centers in over 40 different countries.

Talking about the success of the Narconon network, Mr. Benitez said: “Its success and expansion are due to the dedication of so many staff and volunteers throughout the world, who have laboured to make the program’s benefits available to everyone in need. Staff and volunteers compensation is in knowing they are providing society and its children a better environment in which to live. My thanks go to them.”

William Benitez passed away in 1999, and he left behind a drug and alcohol treatment solution that has saved tens of thousands of lives.

AUSTIN, Texas — Eagle Feather Research Institute (www.eaglefeather.org) provides current research of different cultural groups that have been misrepresented via distorted or biased cultural histories due to political, racial or religious reasons. The goal is to present factual cultural data that is not political; it purports to go beyond superficial layers of information and question the validity of sources. While society has progressed technologically, current scholars begin to question the more important civilizing elements that constitute a working and harmonious order. While censorship was notorious in the Middle Ages with the Inquisition, it is still present in varying and subtle ways among the cross section of institutions in the modern world.

Dr. Roberto Cintli Rodriguez, Research Associate at the University of Arizona states: “The work of Dr.Arnoldo Carlos Vento is both a treasure and unprecedented. The work I have been doing on the inter-connectedness of the continent via Maiz, was done by him a generation ago. His work and research are fascinating and I can only hope to build upon his work and the other Indigenous scholars. Additionally, he builds upon the work of his own mother, Adela Sloss Vento, what I term, a ceremonial discourse.”

The new Website contains Educational Materials that are divided into five series: Pre-Columbian, Mexican, Chicano/Chicana, Native American and Ancient Cultures. Areas covered include Culture, History, Philosophy, Language, Literature, Medicine and Oral History. The listings of works are further divided into Abstract/Articles, Abstract/Books, Articles and Books. While most works are in English, some books and articles are in Spanish. Additional areas under News and TIPS include Historical Bits, Natural Health and Linguistic Nuances and News/Green Earth.

The Columns of Latest News and Newsletters provide a forum concerned with current issues: Nutrition, Health Risks, the Endangered Eco-system, Folk Music, and current as well as future projects.

Among the goals: stimulate thinking regarding long standing historical and cultural myths. Was scalping initiated by American Indians? Did Teddy Roosevelt charge on horseback up San Juan Hill? What role did the Inquisition play in the creation of history and modern myth regarding the Aztecs? Why did Americans refuse to eat tomatoes before 1830? Was the idea of Hell as eternal damnation known in the time of Jesus? Did the word “America” really originate with Albericus Vespucci (Almerigo, Americo)?

Among recent E books include works concerned with Native American and Western Worldviews in Collision, History and Culture of Mestizos, the Christian Crusades, Southwestern History, Mexican Intellectual History, Literary Anthologies, Memoirs of first Mexican American woman civil rights activist, in addition to literary and historical novels both in Spanish and English. Criticism, Poetry and Essays complete the genres. Archival photos of cultural movements add further to the listing.

For additional information contact: Arnoldo Carlos Vento, PhD, Executive Officer or visit eaglefeather.org and peruse the Bookstore.

GILROY, Calif. — “It is never too late for a second chance at love,” says Patricia Bubash, Licensed Professional Counselor and author of a new book, “Successful Second Marriages” (ISBN 978-1-58909-563-2), published by Bookstand Publishing. “Having experienced a failed second marriage, I wondered why so few second marriages work,” says Bubash, who has been an educator and counselor for over 30 years. “Several years ago I decided to make this a personal project. I wanted to talk with couples who had achieved what I had ‘not.’ I wanted to hear the positive stories of couples that had taken a second chance, and were having happy and successful marriages.”

Successful Second Marriages is the result of this project and includes interviews with nine couples who have achieved success in their remarriage as well as the author’s often humorous and candid reflections on her own personal experiences and discoveries of what makes for a successful remarriage. “I know I am a better partner because of these couples and their willingness to share their personal stories with me,” says Bubash.

Bubash points out that the recent movie Nights in Rodanthe, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, is also about “it never being too late for a second chance at love.” Night in Rodanthe, however, ends tragically with no future for its Hollywood couple, whereas, Successful Second Marriages illustrates the positive future for couples who have taken a “second chance at love.” “I wanted to provide hope and encouragement,” say Bubash.

Patricia Bubash received her M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Working with students and families has been her true calling for over thirty years. For more than twenty years she has presented workshops at the community college on a variety of topics relating to parenting issues, self-esteem, career assessment, children and divorce. Patricia is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri and past president of the St. Louis Counseling Association. She performs volunteer work to help at-risk-children and she is a past board member of Kids in the Middle.

Ms. Bubash is available for speaking engagements and book signings. She can be contacted at 314-842-5460 CST or through her website at www.successfulsecondmarriages.com.

Praise for “Successful Second Marriages” by Patricia Bubash

Bill McClellan: Columnist, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
“Love might be more comfortable the second time around, but that doesn’t mean second marriages are a sure thing. Why do so few second marriages work? Pat Bubash, who has been an educator and a counselor for more than 30 years, decided to talk to couples who have made second marriages work. Is there a secret? Is it more than having both feet on the ground? With insight, humor and real curiosity, veteran counselor Pat Bubash had taken a look at one of society’s most unexamined questions. Actually, she has turned the question on its head. Why do some second marriages work? Pat talks to couples who have made a go of it the second time around”

Dr. Raphael J. Becvar: Marriage and Family Therapist
“It is very well written. Mrs. Bubash has written the stories of remarried couples. She seems to have captured the essence of the dynamics of their relationships. Their stories are very rich in the ‘wisdom;’ of the success of their marriages. While the author does not intend this to be an ‘advice’ book, I know each reader will gleam some important ideas from the presentation of the stories. I commend Mrs. Bubash on writing this important story of successful second marriages.”

Mary DuParri, M.A., Licensed Professional Counselor
“The author’s style in her interviews is warm and friendly and mirrors the optimism she displays in candid reflections on her own marriages. This book is very upbeat and offers hope to couples who wonder if second marriages can endure hardships and stay intact. As a therapist I usually hear what is wrong with marriages. It is nice to hear what is right. An enjoyable read.”

Dr. Howard Rosenthal, Author, Encyclopedia of Counseling and Help Yourself to Positive Mental Health
“Hats off to Pat Bubash for writing Successful Second Marriages. Must reading for anybody who is seriously contemplating tying the knot a second time. If you liked Judy Wallerstein’s Second Chances, then you are going to love this book. Written with genuine caring and warmth, this work provides the reader with valuable insights and unravels the mystery about what really keeps these marriages ticking.”

Priscilla Bass Timmerberg, Ph.D., Licensed Professional Counselor
“Successful Second Marriages is a true gem! The author’s insights make a complex topic easier to understand. The stories offer a look into the lives of successful couples that leave me wanting more. I enjoyed the book from the first page to last.”

With a focus on value, Haack suggests seven sure-bet ways to stretch your dollar in Tuscany by visiting tucked-away villages and hamlets.

	1. Accommodations: Venturing off the beaten strada into the countryside of Tuscany means you’ll get more accommodation for each euro you spend – lots more. For as little as 50 euro per person you can get a first-rate (and we do mean first-rate) sleeping room in an agriturismo (farmhouse accommodation) with private bath, homemade Italian breakfast and fabulous views.

	2. Organic Foods: We say, “organic.” They say, “Is there any other way?” Farmer’s markets, fruit and vegetable shops and restaurants throughout countryside villages in Tuscany sell and serve the freshest foods they have on hand, and the prices are impossible to beat. Most often what you buy or eat is produced organically on a nearby farm.

	3. Shopping: Almost every village and town in Tuscany has a market day – ask at any bar or tobacco stand to find out which day. You’ll pay local prices (way cheaper than the cities) and find everything from shoes to purses to flowers to cheeses.

	4. Cheap (Excellent) Wine: The Tuscan countryside is filled with vineyards and wineries, and many offer tastings and tours. Look for roadside signs that read “enoteca” (wine tastings) or “vendita diritta” (direct sales) and you’ll save a bundle on wine. Also, check out supermarkets. It’s not uncommon to find good table wine for one euro per bottle!

	5. Thermal Baths: Tuscany boasts many spa resorts – most are exclusive and very pricey. To have the experience of restorative waters, without the hefty price tag, villages like San Casciano and Bagno Vignoni have free thermal baths just outside their town centers. Ask for directions in the tourist information centers.

	6. Works of Art: Churches in tiny villages and hamlets throughout Central Italy are filled with important works of art, and most only ask that you leave a donation for viewing. These were the places that famous artists (Raphael, Michelangelo, Perugino) schooled before heading to the larger palaces and cathedrals in the cities – and you won’t have to stand in line for viewing.

	7. Better Meals: Ok, that’s a big claim (because it’s hard to find bad food in Tuscany) but the truth is, the further you venture from the tourist-filled areas, the more likely you’ll find the real deal – authentic Italian cooking – and often for a fraction of the price charged in over-crowded spots. Fantastico!
