WASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — A delegation of officials from the Family Protection Department (FPD) of the Government of Jordan’s Public Security Directorate (PSD) and other agencies concluded a two-week seminar with the New York Police Department (NYPD) concentrating on New York City’s approach to domestic violence and child abuse prevention and prosecution. The goal of the seminar was to illustrate New York’s coordinated approach, exchange views and best practices, and identify initiatives for potential adoption by Jordan. A closing ceremony was held in Manhattan, which was chaired by Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary William McGlynn and NYPD Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

The interdisciplinary delegation was comprised of police officers from FPD, prosecutors from the Ministry of Justice, forensic physicians from the Ministry of Health, and social workers from the Ministry of Social Development. The group observed how various New York City agencies address and coordinate on domestic violence and child abuse, including the police department, the district attorneys’ offices, the medical examiner, hospitals, shelters, and social service agencies.

The seminar was sponsored by INL and coordinated by NYPD. The INL program in Jordan provides ongoing assistance to the Government of Jordan in three areas: reduction of gender-based violence, intellectual property rights enforcement, and anti-money laundering/countering the financing of terrorism.

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Marty Niedelman (www.martivation.com), a pharmacist from New York, claims he has the answer which will lead to the cure of Cancer. He feels that all the research scientists are leaning toward his conclusion, but are taking too much time to succeed. He has written an article explaining what he knows about the subject. The purpose of this article is to motivate all the researchers to perfect the cure now.

Through the years, Marty has seen scattered articles and news alerts about the cure for Cancer. These usually state that it will take several years to perfect the cure of a limited type of Cancer. Then, he doesn’t hear anything more. Marty feels that the time for action is now.

Being a Pharmacist for over forty years, Marty is familiar with the pharmaceutical industry and the state of disease. There are scientists, researchers, and doctors who are more knowledgeable in the subject than he is.

But, sometimes simplicity has a way of eluding all of us.

By going to www.martivation.com and clicking on articles, the “Theory On Cancer Cure – Fact or Fiction,” can be printed for free. Then, by e-mailing it to everyone you know, Marty feels “we will get the attention of all those people who have the expertise to make the cure for Cancer a reality.”

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Jewelry Central, a leading retailer of engagement rings and fine jewelry has entered into an agreement with Nickelodeon to provide prizes for the Parents Connect sweepstakes. Nickelodeon is the most watched television network for kids in the United States, and a division of MTV Networks and Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA / VIA.B). For the grand prize, one lucky contestant will receive a heart-shaped diamond and garnet necklace from Jewelry Central. The grand prize winner will also receive other lovely items. Visit www.ParentsConnect.com to enter the Whole Lotta Love sweepstakes.

Jewelry Central provides consumers with a superior alternative to shopping at a traditional retail store. The company offers thousands of independently certified loose diamonds, engagement rings and fine jewelry at exceptional values. In addition to the below retail prices, shoppers enjoy the extra convenience of browsing a vast selection of jewelry in one place from the comfort of their home or office. People are comfortable purchasing luxury items on the internet, and are buying less from brick and mortar retailers.

JewelryCentral.com provides a unique, simple and enjoyable way to buy engagement rings and fine jewelry. What makes the company a success is their dedication to customer service, and ongoing improvements to their Web site. To create a tangible visual experience, the company provides multiple views of each product, which can be enlarged to show detail. By making the buying experience more realistic, the company makes it easy to make an informed purchase.

This past fall, the company introduced 3D diamond movies to create a stunning visual experience for Web site visitors. Jewelry Central gives shoppers the option of viewing a beautiful three dimensional movie when looking at an individual diamond. Reviews of this new innovative content have been very positive, indicating increased customer satisfaction.

Each presentation shows how a diamond sparkles as light enters and exits the stone, while displaying flashes of color. This new technology dominates the Web in terms of having the most visually impressive presentation of a diamond. Most all other online companies do not offer their customers 3D diamond animations.

A famous animation studio in Hollywood, California developed this new technology. Animators built computer models to reproduce the facets and proportions of each diamond shape, and then used advanced CG technology to add color and produce the finished movies. Later this year, Jewelry Central will be introducing more animated content to enhance the customer experience.

Please visit www.jewelrycentral.com for more details.

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — It is no secret that our country is in the worst economic crisis in recent history. There are many challenges being faced within our local communities. We are dealing with the impact of cutbacks at every level. Families are surviving on tighter budgets, companies are streamlining and downsizing and governments are looking at how to balance their budgets and decrease spending, or where appropriate, increase or maintain spending when it benefits the local community. According to the Long Island Presidents’ Council (www.yourschools.org), in a few months, school districts will be planning their own budgets and looking for community support.

Public school education is one of the areas which cannot be compromised. We need to support efforts to recruit, reward and retain qualified teachers and fund vital public school programs that are crucial for our children’s future. “Education is important to the survival of our communities and of our nation, especially in this economic crisis. How can we be the leader of the world if we no longer support the education necessary to compete in the world? We need to provide our children with the tools to survive in an increasingly global environment,” explains Jeff Rozran of the Syosset Teachers Association and Board Member of NYSUT.

Equal access to a quality education is promised to every student. And it is vital to the Long Island community and its future. Public education provides students with many, rich non-academic experiences, which provides for a prosperous future. A solid public school education makes a student more competitive, provides a vital skill set and knowledge that our society deems necessary and enables students to become contributing citizens. “Public school education provides our children with a foundation built on important subjects and skills that make them productive and successful,” added Huntington Town Councilman Mark Mayoka.

Despite chronic inadequate funding, Long Island public schools continue to be creative and find innovative and practical ways to provide our students with knowledge, skills, training and values that they need for their future to lead our country. Our academic programs are among the best in the country and our diverse and extensive array of extracurricular activities ensures our students receive a well-rounded, comprehensive and exciting educational experience.

It is important for our communities to support our local school budgets so that we ensure that we do not cut those that implement and address our challenges today and at the same time provide a strong foundation for the future. One of the means of getting our economy back on track is supporting education and investing in our students’ futures. In a few months we will have the opportunity to ensure our children’s future by ensuring strong support for our public school education programs and budgets.

POMONA, N.Y. — The new book, “Brain Drain” (ISBN-13: 978-0984196302), authored by Charles F. Glassman, M.D., FACP, is a powerful work of non-fiction that teaches people how to break free of their brains’ automatic responses through understanding and controlling their mind/body connections. “Brain Drain” was patient driven, according to the author. Five years ago, Dr. Glassman founded the New York Center for Longevity and Wellness – its goal to take a comprehensive approach to medicine and to balance mind/body concepts with conventional medicine. Two years later, he began distributing a weekly, motivational e-mail message to patients and friends; its popularity quickly grew. As a result, he was prompted to turn his practical advice into a book.

The book offers a groundbreaking revelation that provides readers with the necessary tools to stop personal brain drain while helping them to find the things in life that are right for them. It explores many areas that include: how to get out of an unhappy relationship; how to improve overall physical health; how to increase energy; how to break free of bad habits; and much more.

Broken down into 19 chapters and three parts: The Automatic Brain; The Power of Our Mind; and Seven Days to Belief, Brain Drain connects the dots between mind, body, spirit and wellness.

“Brain Drain” recently won honorable mention at the prestigious New England Book Festival in the non-fiction category. It’s 240 pages and available in hardcover for $29.95 on Amazon.com and at: www.CharlesGlassmanMD.com .

About the Author, Charles Glassman:

Dr. Charles Glassman’s internal medicine practice in Pomona, NY emphasizes wellness and prevention. He is patient focused rather than problem focused; and driven to provide health care rather than sick care.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and the Life Extension Foundation, his approach to medicine is integrative – using traditionally-approved methods while recognizing the power of unconventional therapies. He is consistently voted a “Top Doctor” in Hudson Valley Magazine and New York Metro.

Dr. Glassman has appeared on ABC News, Bloomberg Radio, National Public Radio and The Wall Street Journal Radio. He has had numerous health care articles appear in The New York Times and other publications, and is quickly becoming a leading medical community expert on mind/body/spirit concerning the physician-patient relationship.

He lives in Rockland County, New York with his wife Melanie and their four children (and dog, Ginger).

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. — In recognition of Glaucoma Awareness Month, Highland Ophthalmology Associates, in New Windsor, NY, will be offering free Glaucoma Screenings on Saturday, January 16, 2010. Highland Ophthalmology Associates encourages anyone at risk to please participate in their Glaucoma Awareness Program. “Glaucoma is like high blood pressure and diabetes – you have to check your eye pressure regularly,” said Mary Davidian, M.D. fellowship trained ophthalmologist at Highland Ophthalmology.

It is estimated that over 3 million Americans have glaucoma and half are at risk for going blind because they remain undiagnosed. “Glaucoma is a complex disease, because there are no symptoms in the early stages. By the time vision loss is noted by the patient, the disease process is quite advanced. If detected early enough, vision loss from glaucoma can be treated and prevented,” said Dr. Tim Huynh an Eye M.D. and a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist at Highland Ophthalmology. “As part of Glaucoma Awareness Month in January, we are urging people who might be at risk to come to our office for a free Glaucoma Screening.”

“Who is at risk? African-Americans have a higher incidence of glaucoma, and it often appears at a younger age than in other racial groups. Anyone with a close relative – father, mother or sibling – with glaucoma is also at risk. Older people, those with diabetes and people who have had a serious eye injury are considered at risk as well,” says Dr. Huynh. “Anyone who falls into these groups should call us or their Eye M.D. to have their eyes examined. Although glaucoma cannot be cured, early detection and treatment can usually preserve vision.”

Glaucoma is a condition in which the optic nerve, responsible for transmitting visual information from the eye to the brain, is damaged. It can be associated with elevated pressure within the eye and often leads to vision loss. It begins with the loss of peripheral vision and then advances to a reduction in central vision. Glaucoma can potentially lead to blindness.

On Saturday January 16, 2010, Highland Ophthalmology will be hosting complimentary glaucoma screenings at their office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments can be scheduled to help minimize wait time by calling (845) 562-0138.

About Highland Ophthalmology Associates:
