eNewsChannels: Miami homeless

MIAMI, Fla. /eNewsChannels/ — NEWS: When Jhasmidah Alexandre, founder, president and CEO of Philanthropy from the Heart, Inc., overcame homelessness, she made a promise that she would give back to help those less fortunate and in need. And, that’s exactly what she’s doing. On Friday, September 26, a free fundraising event will be held at Joe Celestin Center at 1525 NW 135th Street in North Miami, FL 33167, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The event promises to be a fun-filled evening for kids and adults too. There will be entertainment, $1 raffles and food and promotional items for sale. The raffle will be a 50/50 raffle. So, for example, if raffle sales tally $1,000, the winner will receive $500 and the organization will receive $500. All proceeds from food and other miscellaneous items for sale will go directly back into the community.

“This event is made possible because of assistance from partners such as FarmShare, a non-profit, Florida City organization that recovers food from farms, wholesalers and other groups which is donated to feed the hungry; and Publix Super Markets, Inc.,” Alexandre says.

Currently, Philanthropy from the Heart provides food, clothing and basic hygiene items to a little more than 100 homeless people per week. Future goals include the desire to provide items, daily, rather than weekly, and to also offer one-on-one mentoring services to assist the homeless to find employment and housing.

“One step at a time,” Jhasmidah says.

For people who cannot attend the fundraising event, but who wish to donate, they can donate online at: http://www.ptheart.org/donate/ .

As Jhasmidah says, “Donating is medicine for the soul.”
