Second Season of Potty-Mouthed Comedy ‘Poor Paul’ Starts Today
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Tweens, teens and adults alike have been anxiously awaiting the sophomore season of the wacky politically-incorrect comedy with a heart, also known as Poor Paul, produced by Eye Scream Films. These same fans are also excited for the premiere of the Disney Channel’s Princess Protection Program which happens to star Poor Paul’s Kevin G. Schmidt (Young and the Restless, Cheaper by the Dozen) and Samantha Droke (Suite Life of Zack & Cody).
Why are fans of squeaky-clean Disney idols watching Poor Paul? Most likely because they’re not supposed to be. Who didn’t get a thrill out of sneaking into an R-Rated film as a kid? That, and the fact that Poor Paul is an intelligent, well-written and acted comedy that isn’t afraid to take chances. According to Tubefilter’s Lindsay Stidham: “Poor Paul’s strengths undoubtedly fall in its willingness to be wacky. To that, I say wack-it-up.”
YouTube user “BestFanOfMiley” said “Seriously… I can’t stop laughing! I hope there will be a second season… Pleeeeease” Another, jobrosfan26 said, “Awesome videos… I’ve watched every single one… they are amazing… keep up the great work!” Finally, “disneychannelfan2332″ posted “I love all of the characters and are you doing more episodes?”
Paul lives vicariously through his own video blog and creates hilarious fantasies to escape the stresses of real life. His roommates are the over-achieving “I’m better than everyone” Justin (Schmidt) and Clyde, the OCD womanizing alcoholic. A frequent visitor is Clyde’s adopted sister Bonnie (Droke), who has a crush on Paul. Their quirky chemistry all contribute to the guilty pleasure of Poor Paul.
Poor Paul’s second season has also attracted some high-profile guest stars including Guillermo Diaz (Half Baked, Chappelle Show, Weeds), Elaine Hendrix (The Parent Trap, Joan of Arcadia), Mandy Jiroux (Miley Cyrus’ BFF, Miley-Mandy Show) and returning as the lovable and eccentric Grandpa Paul, character actor Richard Riehle (Office Space, Grounded for Life).
“I had so much fun doing it, I would love to do more…” said Diaz after wrapping production. On Twitter, Jiroux tweeted, “Great guys, great actors, great show!”
Poor Paul is a 2009 Webby Award Honoree and stars Kevin G. Schmidt, Samantha Droke, Wes Whitworth (who replaces Nicholas Braun in the role of Clyde) and Zack Bennett as Paul; with Palmer Scott (Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job) and Poor Paul director Sean Michael Beyer as Mr. Ted.
