Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Doug Bloch, 42, of Oakland, has been appointed to the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation. Bloch has been political director at Teamsters Joint Council 7 since 2010.
Bloch was the Port of Oakland campaign director for Change to Win from 2006 to 2010 and a senior research analyst at Service Employees International Union Local 1877 from 2004 to 2006. Bloch was statewide political director at the California Association of Community Organization for Reform Now (ACORN) from 2003 to 2004 and ran several ACORN regional offices, including Seattle and Oakland, from 1999 to 2003. He was an organizer at the Non-Governmental Organization Coordinating Committee for Northeast Thailand from 1999 to 2003. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Bloch is a Democrat.
Christine Bouma, 45, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation. Bouma has been president of Capitol Connection since 2000. She was a mathematics and computer science teacher at the Hesperia Unified School District from 1989 to 1999 and an instructor at Victor Valley Community College from 1991 to 1998. She is a member of the Institute of Governmental Advocates. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Bouma is a Democrat.
Martin Brady, 51, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation. Brady is executive director at Schools Insurance Authority, where he has worked since 1988. He is a member of the California Joint Powers Authority, California Coalition on Workers Compensation, Public Agency Risk Managers Association, Public School Risk Institute, Association of Governmental Risk Pools and the Public Risk Management Association. Debbie Jacobsen, 56, of Fresno, has been appointed to the 21st District Agricultural Association, Big Fresno Fair, where she has served since 2005. Jacobsen has been an executive assistant at the San Joaquin Political Academy since 2005. She was an executive assistant at Leisle Electric Inc. from 1997 to 2002, office assistant at Rosendahl’s Auto Body from 1993 to 1997 and office administrator at J and L Vineyards Cold Storage from 1990 to 1993. Jacobsen served as president of the Fresno County Farm Bureau from 2002 to 2004. She is a member of the Fresno County Farm Bureau, California Women for Agriculture, Ag One Foundation of Fresno State University and Raisin Wives of California. Jerry Pacheco, 68, of Kerman, has been appointed to the 21st District Agricultural Association, Big Fresno Fair. Pacheco has been president of Pacheco Dairy Inc. since 1996 and owned Pacheco Farms from 1967 to 1996. He is a member of the Fresno County Farm Bureau, Nisei Farmers League, Sun-Maid Growers of California, Kerman Unified School District Ag Support Group and Fresno State University Bulldog Foundation. Fue “Ricky” Vang, 45, of Clovis, has been appointed to the 21st District Agricultural Association, Big Fresno Fair. Vang has been vice principal of Duncan Polytechnical High School since 2006. He was a guidance learning counselor at Buchanan High School from 2005 to 2006 and instructional coordinator at Bangkok Christian College from 2004 to 2005. Vang was principal of Kunming International Academy from 2001 to 2004. He was vice principal and counselor at Roosevelt High School from 1994 to 2001. Laura Farr, 47, of Chino, has been appointed to the 28th District Agricultural Association, San Bernardino County Fair Board. Farr has been corporate project accounting manager at Cornerstone Equipment Management since 2012. She was controller at Del Real Foods from 2008 to 2011. Farr was controller at Vishay Spectrol from 2007 to 2008 and at In-Care LLC from 2003 to 2007. Patrick Kahler, 45, of Highland, has been appointed to the 28th District Agricultural Association, San Bernardino County Fair Board. Charles Leming, 43, of Apple Valley, has been appointed to the 28th District Agricultural Association, San Bernardino County Fair Board. Leming is a staff analyst II for San Bernardino County, where he has worked since 2007. He was a commercial real estate advisor at Sperry Van Ness Commercial Real Estate from 2006 to 2007. Leming was a senior management analyst for the City of Pomona from 1998 to 2005. He is a member of the Youth Action Project.
