SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Ruth Bermudez Montenegro to a judgeship in the Imperial County Superior Court.
Montenegro, 44, of El Centro, has served as assistant county counsel for Imperial County since 2011 and was deputy county counsel in 2000. Previously, she was an assistant superintendent for the El Centro Elementary School District from 2002 to 2011 and was the director of human resources for the Imperial Community College District from 2000 to 2002.
Montenegro was an attorney at Horton, Knox, Carter and Foote LLP from 1993 to 2000. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
She fills the vacancy created by the death of Judge Barrett J. Foerster. Montenegro is a Democrat.
The compensation for this position is $178,789.
