SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — California Recovery Task Force Director and Senior Advisor to the Governor Herb K. Schultz issued the following statement after California Recovery Act Inspector General Laura Chick released a review of the California Department of Social Services’ spending of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funds:

“I appreciate California Recovery Act Inspector General Laura Chick’s ongoing work to identify what appear to be several issues related to Recovery Act spending at or through the Department of Social Services. This is exactly why the Governor appointed the first-in-the-nation Inspector General to monitor Recovery Act spending and I look forward to working with the California Health and Human Services Agency, the Department of Social Services and the counties of Shasta, Sacramento and San Bernardino to immediately address these issues.”

Governor Schwarzenegger created the California Recovery Task Force to track the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding coming into the state; work with President Barack Obama’s administration; help cities, counties, non-profits, and others access the available funding; ensure that the funding funneled through the state is spent efficiently and effectively; and maintain a Web site (www.recovery.ca.gov) that is frequently and thoroughly updated for Californians to be able to track the stimulus dollars.
