U.S. Department of StateWASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — As a part of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement’s (INL) Liberia National Police (LNP) Mobile Training Teams Project, INL provided funding for twenty LNP officers, including four female training officers, to travel to the United States from January 16 to February 5, 2013 to participate in a customized police training curriculum designed and implemented by the Police Foundation.

The training will focus predominantly on community policing. LNP officers will participate in classroom instruction, practical exercises, and on-the-job-training in partnership with the following organizations: United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Virginia State Police, Virginia State Police Training Academy, Richmond Police Department, Henrico County (VA) Police Department, University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Harrisburg (PA) Police Department, Derry Township (PA) Police Department, Swatara Township (PA) Police Department, and the Liberia Association of Virginia.

This training seminar provides LNP officers with a better understanding of basic principles of effective police work. At the conclusion of this course, the officers will be able to educate other Liberian police throughout the country on the principles they learned.

The United States remains the largest donor supporting Liberia’s recovery and development. Since 2005, INL has provided over $50 million to support the development of the LNP.
