U.S. Department of StateWASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — Next week, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs will welcome approximately 135 emerging international journalists from 90 countries for the seventh annual Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists. The Murrow program is an innovative public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of State, the Aspen Institute, and nine leading U.S. schools of journalism.

Throughout the three week exchange, the international journalists will experience America’s newsrooms, share U.S. journalism practices, and create new professional networks with fellow media professionals from the United States and around the world. The international participants will explore their roles as journalists and the role of the media in various societies as they foster mutually beneficial networks with fellow journalists within their region, in the United States, and across the world.

After convening in Washington, DC, the group will divide into regional groups to work with one of the following U.S. schools of journalism:

* College of Communication & Information, University of Tennessee
* Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Oklahoma
* Grady College, University of Georgia
* Manship School of Mass Communication, Louisiana State University
* School of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of Minnesota
* S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University
* School of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
* Reynolds School of Journalism, University of Nevada, Reno
* The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, Arizona State University

Groups will then travel to Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Las Vegas, NV; Pensacola, FL; Rapid City, SD; Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; or San Francisco, CA, to exchange best practices, learn about the role of media in the U.S. elections process, and see the latest trends in new technology, before reconvening in Chicago, IL.

The Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists is a flagship initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ International Visitor Leadership Program and has brought more than 1,000 foreign journalists to the United States.
