North Miami Public Library Kicks Off Statewide Investor Education Initiative
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — City of North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns along with representatives from the Florida Office of Financial Regulation kick off an initiative to show Florida citizens how easy the road to financial security can be if you know the basics of simple investing. There will be a press conference Monday September 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the North Miami Public Library 835 NE 132nd Street, North Miami. The program will take place Saturday September 29th at 12:45 p.m. at the same location.
The North Miami Public Library has been chosen as one of only 15 library systems around the state of Florida to participate in the Investor Education @ your library(R) program sponsored by the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, the American Library Association and the Investor Protection Trust. The seminar has been developed and will be conducted by the Evelyn Brust Financial Research and Education Foundation. The Evelyn Brust Foundation also provided financial support.
This statewide initiative is designed to respond to the need for more investor education. According to the Investor Protection Trust (IPT), the vast majority of American investors do not possess important “investor survival skills” needed to build their savings into a retirement nest egg. Only 17 percent of respondents correctly answered a sufficient number of questions on knowledge and behavior to pass this test.
“Investor Education @ your library will equip both new and experienced investors with the intellectual armor they need to invest wisely and avoid investment scams,” says Don Blandin, President and CEO of the IPT.
As part of the program, the North Miami Public Library received a grant to host a free, non-commercial professional seminar.
The workshop will consist of a training session followed by a small group help session. The program is Saturday September 29, 2007 from 12:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the North Miami Public Library (835 NE 132 Street, North Miami, Florida, 33161).
