WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Oracle Group announces the launch of “In the Cafe with Mocha” an exciting new literary television show celebrating African American authors. The show streams via Internet and local television programming in the Washington DC area beginning September 2007.
“In the Cafe with Mocha” is a weekly, 30-minute talk show highlighting the works of local and nationally acclaimed African-American authors. It is an exciting new twist on the literary talk show that encourages the participation and interaction of readers by offering outlets at home, online and in the community. Authors will appear at selected venues across the nation where readers are invited to participate in the television taping. Following each filming readers are offered the opportunity to meet and greet the authors and take part in a book signing.
The show takes the reader out of the traditional setting into an arena where books and authors are able to come alive through the power of television and the internet.
Through this medium “In the Cafe with Mocha” raises awareness, knowledge and pride in African-American literature and culture and its impact on our lives. By bringing the authors into the community, the program presents a unique opportunity for literary awareness and community outreach. Additionally, each venue will be unique, giving the viewer a glimpse of the nations many establishments and festivals that support literary efforts.
The host and co-producer of the show Mocha Ochoa is an independent literary event planner, who most recently organized the first ever NAACP Author Pavilion at their 98th Annual Convention – see highlights at www.theoraclegroup.net/videos/naacpshort.wmv
She has also organized book events with Barnes & Noble, The National Book Festival, The National Press Club and the National Council of Negro Women.
In partnership with Amistad Press, Ms. Ochoa will be presenting four exciting events to the Washington DC area. The inaugural “Kick Off” event will include a live taping and book signing with Supermodel Alek Wek, where she will discuss and sign copies of her upcoming release “Alek: From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel” (ISBN 9780061243318). Alek Wek appears on Wednesday September 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Zanzibar on the Waterfront. The live taping will be followed by a book signing and meet and greet. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn about the Save Darfur Campaign.
From October to December the “In the Cafe with Mocha” line-up includes: Pulitzer Prize Award winner Edward P. Jones, Elena John and renowned author and entrepreneur Chris Gardner.
“All of the events promise to be intellectually stimulating and fabulously chic, while highlighting contemporary authors and their community supporters,” says Ochoa. “In the Cafe with Mocha literary events are anything but boring!”
