WASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — Following her calls to Sudanese First Vice President Salva Kiir and Vice President Taha yesterday, Secretary Clinton has dispatched U.S. Special Envoy Scott Gration to Sudan to continue senior-level dialogue with officials in Khartoum and Juba, emphasizing the importance of full implementation of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The Special Envoy will depart the United States on Thursday, September 9, 2010, and will travel to Juba and Khartoum, where he will urge the CPA parties to move forward on preparations for the January 2011 referenda on self-determination for Southern Sudan and Abyei, and continue negotiations on security, conflict mitigation, and planning for the post-referendum period.
