WASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — US STATE DEPT. — On April 4, 2010, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Arturo Valenzuela will begin a week-long trip to Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. The Assistant Secretary will meet with senior officials to discuss issues of mutual interests, including security cooperation, social inclusion, economic competitiveness and inclusive prosperity, democratic governance, and human rights.

While in Ecuador, the Assistant Secretary will meet with students at the University Tecnica Particular de Loja and deliver a speech on U.S. foreign policy in the region at the Latin American Faculty for Social Sciences (FLACSO).

In Colombia, he will deliver remarks at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and will participate in the World Economic Forum in Cartagena.

He will conclude his trip in Peru where he will meet with high level government officials, political and economic analysts, and visit alternative development projects in San Martín.
