FREMONT, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement after the U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded a $333,000 grant to the city of Fremont to support the reuse and revitalization of the NUMMI site to provide economic benefit for the community:

“I am encouraged by the federal government’s action today. As with all the other auto plant closings around the country, the federal government has a central role to play in helping affected communities find alternative uses for abandoned facilities. When combined with my administration’s leading-edge policies that are designed to attract new and growing employers and California’s best-in-world workforce, this grant will help Fremont find viable alternative uses for that site. In addition my administration will continue to work with our local and federal partners to ensure that dislocated workers are provided with the resources they need to take advantage of those new opportunities.”
