LADERA RANCH, Calif. /eNewsChannels/ — Laura’s House, an emergency shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence, will now enjoy the benefits of new energy efficient windows thanks to support from Milgard Windows & Doors and Walker Windows.
The Orange County nonprofit shelter, established in 1994, seeks to change social behaviors, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence, while creating a safe place in which to empower individuals and families affected by abuse. In the last decade, the organization has seen the demand for its services rise dramatically, which has impacted its ability to meet this growing need through its existing shelter facilities. This is where the contribution from Milgard plays a pivotal role. The company partnered with Walker Windows on the project.
“We’ve been happy to have the opportunity to work closely with William Hezmalhalch Architects, Walker Windows and Laura’s House to the benefit of the families who rely on this valuable community service,” said Mark Yeandle, General Manager of Milgard Windows & Doors. “As a local business, we feel it is part of our responsibility to assist our friends and neighbors in any way possible.”
The new energy efficient Milgard windows will provide security and cut operational costs for Laura’s House, allowing the organization to use the money it saves to provide services for more families in need. This is particularly important in an uncertain economic climate, when energy savings are beneficial for both the environment and building inhabitants.
“We appreciate the contribution from Milgard and Walker Windows,” said Margaret Bayston, CEO and Executive Director, Laura’s House. “For many years now, this project has been a dream for our organization, and we are grateful to all of the individuals and businesses who are committing both their time and financial resources to make this dream a reality.” Laura’s House is also proud to partner with HomeAid Orange County on the Emergency Shelter Rebuild Project, and the expansion of our Step-Ahead Housing program for shelter graduates.
Milgard Windows & Doors has regularly given back to the community, and even has a team dedicated to endeavors such as these.
“Our Milgard Community Action Team works hard to propose and organize investments in our community,” Yeandle said. “We regularly support charity events such as the MS Walk, Race for the Cure and Daffodil Days for Cancer Research. Giving back to our community is an important part of our company’s philosophy.”
