RALEIGH, N.C. /eNewsChannels/ — NEWS: Mayor Nancy McFarlane has officially proclaimed December 2, 2014 #GivingTuesday in the city of Raleigh, N.C., the North Raleigh Ministries announced today. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving first announced in 2012 by the 92nd St. Y and the UN Foundation to encourage Conspicuous Compassion instead of Conspicuous Consumption during the holidays.
Falling on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, the goal of #GivingTuesday is to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national moment dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping.
North Raleigh Ministries is leading the effort to create local awareness for #GivingTuesday here in our hometown. Our motto is “Raleigh Gives Gladly” because our city is home to some of the most generous individuals and businesses in the nation, and we want to show that we give with open hearts to the causes and organizations that we support.
“We are excited about participating in #GivingTuesday for the first time, and we look forward to encouraging philanthropy during the holidays and expanding our donor base. We are proud to be part of a community that gives gladly,” Denise Crumpler, Executive Director, North Raleigh Ministries.
It’s a simple concept — just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.

About North Raleigh Ministries:
North Raleigh Ministries is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping neighbors in crisis. First launched in 2004 as North Hill Crisis Center, we now operate a Crisis Center, Client’s Choice Food Market and Thrift Shoppe. The Crisis Center provides financial support to those needing help meeting their utility bills, rent or mortgage payments while The Market allows our clients to select their own groceries. Our Thrift Shoppe sells gently used clothing and household items which have been donated to us by our generous neighbors. Proceeds from the Thrift Shoppe are used to fund our operations.
