MORRISTOWN, N.J. /eNewsChannels/ — Pending release, “A Patzer’s Story,” by Timothy A. Sawyer, managing director of Morristown-based MBD Consulting, uses chess as a metaphor for life. In “A Patzer’s Story,” Sawyer draws comparisons between his passion for chess and his ongoing battle with depression.
The book offers 22 “rules” or axioms to help the reader enjoy the world of chess as well as the chessboard of life. For example, Rule 21 reads: You must be able to objectively face your current limitations; and Rule 22 suggests: You must always celebrate and embrace your strengths.
“When I first started writing the book I had to do quite a bit of self-reflection regarding where I am now and where I want to be,” adds Sawyer. “That’s where the 22 rules came from.”
Here is an excerpt from the book:
“Your life means something. You may not believe that yourself, but it really does. While we may not know each other personally, we have a connection through this book. Because of this connection, your life means something to me. I sincerely mean that. Saving one life is worth more than a royalty fee.”
Sawyer began writing the book on November 10, 2010 and sent the initial manuscript to the publisher on November 14, just four days later. The publisher accepted it shortly thereafter and it has since gone into the design and review phase (ISBN information pending).
“It’s just amazing how all of this has just melded together,” says Sawyer.
