IRVINE, Calif. — Irvine-based BandCon announced today it has turned up a national 10 Gigabits per second (10 Gbps) backbone to help large Internet content companies connect diverse data centers, server farms and peering points. BandCon’s new network enables companies to purchase layer 2 Ethernet connections between cities on a pay-for-use basis.

Content companies require these types of connections as they grow to move data from location to location. BandCon’s network solution enables servers to communicate across the country, creates redundancy, expands network access to ISP’s and allows for a larger peering initiative. BandCon has tapped Level 3 Communications as the primary provider for underlying wavelength services for the new Content Delivery System.

“We are very pleased to be the underlying provider for BandCon’s new service,” said Jeff Tench, senior vice president of offer management for Level 3’s Content Markets Group. “This agreement underscores Level 3’s commitment to providing scalable solutions to companies like BandCon.”

BandCon provides transit, transport, managed networking, CDN services and managed peering. BandCon’s products, called Content Delivery System, focus on flexibility of term and commitment so that newer content companies can maximize their network budget. Service is centered at the major peering sites in America and Europe.

“One of the largest challenges for the new wave of content sites is simply having enough capacity to the Internet,” said Ari Benowitz, president and CEO of BandCon. “Our Content Delivery System combines traditional transit ISP services with private long haul connections to provide flexible and complete networking solutions allowing content sites greater reach to their end user.”
