Parenting GuideSTILLWATER, Minn. /eNewsChannels/ — Stillwater-based parenting consultant Jenny Hanlon is releasing her first book, “Your Family Compass: A Parenting Guide for the Journey” (ISBN: 978-1592984893), a terrific resource for people raising children from birth through the early teens. Parenting is hard work and it is easy for families to get off track. To help them find a healthier course, Hanlon’s book provides a guide for adults to empower the children in their lives, offering workbook pages and case studies for direction.

Hanlon has been working with families for more than 15 years, has her B.S. in Child Psychology, M.Ed. in Family Education, and is licensed in Early Childhood and Parent Education. She runs Jenny Hanlon Consulting, formerly Parent & Teacher Support Services, where she offers support and guidance for professionals who work with children, and for parents with children in the early teens and younger. Hanlon decided to finally write her own book after numerous parents encouraged her to publish a parenting guide.

A sought after teacher and speaker, Hanlon has also been tapped to provide parenting advice on Twin Cities Live and for the Star Tribune. She regularly offers parenting workshops on topics such as “Praise Versus Encouragement: The Truth About Motivation,” and “More, More, More!” about the impact of overindulgence.

“Jenny does an excellent job of bringing together complex ideas about parenting and child rearing while at the same time grounding it,” said Dr. David Bredehoft, Chair of the Dept. of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Concordia University. “One message that comes through loud and clear throughout ‘Your Family Compass’ is: you are in charge of writing your family’s story.”

Hanlon was a founding teacher of Dodge Nature preschool, currently teaches parent-child classes and is the Summer Program Director of The Children’s Farm School in West Lakeland, and volunteers extensively with nonprofit service organization, FamilyMeans. Hanlon lives in Stillwater with her husband and two school-age children who give her plenty of opportunity to test out her own compass.

“Your Family Compass” will be released October 10, 2012 and kick off with a public launch party Oct. 13-14, 2012, held at Carpenter Nature Center as part of their annual Apple Fest.
