CLEVELAND, Ohio — Visual Evidence / E-Discovery LLC, is a state-of-the-art source for electronic discovery products and solutions. Today, they announced the release of VeDATA MAP 2.0, a unique service designed to create a network enterprise-wide map – or data map – of how a corporation creates, amasses and circulates electronically-stored information (ESI). The development of a data map is an organization’s first step in understanding the flow of ESI throughout the corporation. This is critical to in-house counsel; not only in litigation, but also in the areas of regulatory and compliance issues.
Until the release of VeDATA MAP 2.0, it was not uncommon for IT departments to spend months of manual effort to create a case-specific data map. And, even with this time expended, there was still no guarantee that the data was 100 percent accurate.
At a glance, VeDATA MAP 2.0 provides the corporation with a visual diagram of an organization’s systems, applications and processes that their business units commonly use.
VeDATA Map 2.0 makes it easy for corporations to comply with the 2006 Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) by providing the map, as required by the FRCP, when the litigators sit down for their “meet and confer” sessions.
Additionally, upon data map completion, the final deliverable is in print and electronic format making it simple for corporations to update VeDATA MAP 2.0 as their hardware, personnel and internal applications change.
Updating the map is critical. It should be updated on a regular basis to ensure its relevance. A well-constructed map will allow in-house counsel to focus on litigation strategies without wasting time searching for data sources and potentially relevant custodians.
VeDATA MAP 2.0 also enables corporations to identify the ESI that is “accessible versus non-accessible” so they can quickly respond to electronic discovery requests pertaining to litigation, regulatory investigations and/or compliance issues.
Finally, the map can determine the organization’s software and hardware life cycles as well as ascertain its legacy systems. Ultimately, the map will be the corporation’s foundation when it comes to creating a legally defensible litigation response program.
