WASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Andrew J. Shapiro will travel to Singapore and Vietnam June 2-8, 2010. From June 3-6 in Singapore, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will be the senior State Department representative in the U.S. delegation to the 2010 Shangri-La Dialogue, a forum for exchanges among defense and security policy professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region.
While in Singapore, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will also deliver remarks to members of the American Chamber of Commerce on the Administration’s efforts to enhance U.S. national security through comprehensive reform of the U.S. export control system.
From June 6-8 in Hanoi, Vietnam, Assistant Secretary Shapiro will lead the third meeting of the U.S.-Vietnam Political, Security, and Defense Dialogue. Building on the success of the previous round of consultations held in 2009 in Washington, D.C., the Dialogue will highlight our continuing engagement in the region and furthers America’s increasingly robust bilateral relationship with Vietnam.
The Dialogue will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of peacekeeping operations and training, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, maritime search and rescue, regional security, and nonproliferation.
