WASHINGTON, D.C. /eNewsChannels/ — On December 6, 2012, U.S. Embassy Dublin will launch a Department of State Youth Council at Dublin City University. Embassy Dublin’s Youth Council is comprised of a diverse cross-section of 45 young people, including students, young entrepreneurs, civil society members, and government representatives who have been nominated to the U.S. Embassy because they characterize the promising future of Ireland.
A selection of Youth Council members met with Secretary Clinton before the group engaged in a roundtable discussion with Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Maria Otero and Special Adviser for Global Youth Issues Zeenat Rahman.
This Youth Council is the 50th of its kind around the world. Youth Councils have been created at U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide to encourage a two-way dialogue with emerging young leaders to help find solutions to shared challenges. The Department of State’s Office of Global Youth Issues seeks to work through U.S. Missions and Youth Councils around the world to help empower and support young people as they transform their communities in positive ways with their ideas, energy, and talent.
