SAINTE GENEVIEVE, Mo. — The spirits will come out early this year in historic old Ste. Genevieve when the Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve will be hosting its annual Deja Vu Spirit Reunion. The program takes place in one of Missouri’s oldest cemeteries (established in 1787) among the tombs and headstones of emigrants of French, German, Scottish and other heritages, as well as ancient residents and slaves of that era. This exclusive program of stories, traditions and nostalgia highlights the lives and personalities of notables such as U.S. Senator (1833-43) Lewis F. Linn, a hero in the fight against the widespread cholera epidemic of the time.
Hear the tales and trials of local luminaries like Felix and Odile Valle, Ferdinand Rozier, Commandant Jean-Baptiste Valle and others giving visitors an intimate taste of the day-to-day lifestyles of 18th century Ste. Genevivians.
Traditional dress and candlelight will enhance the experience as well as chill the spine and heighten the senses. Tour the cemetery, chat with the spirits “face-to-face” and enjoy a hauntingly good time at one of the most unique and educational programs of living history in the Midwest.
The Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve, Inc. (FRSG) is an organization formed to promote the preservation and restoration of Ste. Genevieve’s historic structures and traditions. In 2007 they were awarded the distinguished Governor’s Humanities Award for the Deja Vu program.
The event is sponsored by the FRSG and all proceeds help to benefit the Foundation’s Memorial Cemetery restoration efforts. For more information please call 573-883-2099 or 573-883-5850.
