Washington, DC /eNewsChannels/ — The U.S. Department of State today unveiled a redesign of its official website, incorporating improved functionality and an updated design. With significant increases in traffic and expanding needs among users, the new, simplified design of www.state.gov aims to: present the Department of State more transparently, effectively communicate the overarching mission of the Department of State, and increasingly engage audiences in an ongoing dialogue with Secretary Clinton and others in the Department on the foreign policy issues facing the country.

Also redesigned was DipNote, the Department of State’s official blog, which continues to attract a growing number of visitors.

Redesigns of www.state.gov and DipNote represent the first phase of a major overhaul of www.state.gov. Over the coming year, the Department of State will continue to build upon these features and develop new, more efficient systems for users.

Below are the updated features of the website:

Communicates up-to-the-minute news on Secretary Clinton’s efforts and travels, along with current priorities of the Department of State.

Incorporates the Department’s presence on official State Department social networking sites such as DipNote blog, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Increases the prominence of the search functions to serve visiting audiences more quickly and efficiently.

Improves legibility and content visibility with a new layout and color palette.
The DipNote blog now features “Topics” and “Channels” where visitors can easily search for posts according to primary topics, such as Sudan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Global Women’s Issues.

Visitors can provide feedback on the new portal when visiting the new site.
