NEW YORK, N.Y. /eNewsChannels/ — Andaz Wall Street, the only hotel situated on Wall Street and the first Andaz property in Manhattan, announces today the return of their seasonal outdoor farmer’s market. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Wednesday starting May 7, 2011, hotel guests as well as the general public can visit the Andaz Wall Street Plaza near Wall & Water streets and shop from local farms as well as sample food from the hotel’s Wall & Water restaurant.
True to Wall & Water’s roots, the farmer’s market will be featuring items from local Hudson Valley farms and markets including fruits and vegetables from Migliorelli Farm, poultry and game from Quattro’s, jams and chutneys from Beth’s Farm Kitchen, cheese and other dairy products from Farm Catskills, artisanal soaps from Ash Hopper and artisan breads from Orwasher Bakery.
Also this season, Andaz Wall Street has partnered with Down Home Acres and will be the first hotel in New York City to sponsor a community supported agriculture farm (CSA). CSA is a relationship of mutual support and commitment between a local farm and community members. Members pay a seasonal fee upfront to receive a weekly supply of fresh produce, which varies in content according to the season. Each week from the beginning of mid-June till the end of October participants will receive an assortment of seasonal vegetables and/or herbs from Down Home Acres’ gardens. NYC members can pick up their share at the Andaz Wall Street Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays.
“We pride ourselves on being close to our community and a part of the downtown neighborhood,” says Andaz Wall Street General Manager Toni Hinterstoisser. “It is a great pleasure to bring back the Andaz Wall Street Farmer’s Market which was a huge success last year among neighbors and visiting hotel guests alike.”
Most of the farmer’s market suppliers stock the hotel’s Wall & Water restaurant with their farm-fresh ingredients. So in case shoppers need advice on how to prepare items bought at the market, Wall & Water’s Executive Chef Maximo Lopez May has lined up bi-monthly cooking classes in the restaurant’s open kitchen. Guests learn firsthand how to cook Chef Lopez May’s simple but elegant market to table comfort food.
The Andaz Wall Street farmer’s market will continue every Saturday and Wednesday through November 2011. For more information, please visit www.wallstreet.andaz.com or call 212-590-1234.
