KANSAS CITY, Mo. /eNewsChannels/ — NEWS: Nine historic homes, including unique Kansas City shirtwaists and stately stone Foursquares, will open their doors for tours during the biennial Hyde Park Historic Homes Tour. The tour also features a home that exemplifies how modern architecture can co-exist in a historic neighborhood. The Tour, hosted by The Hyde Park Neighborhood Association (HPNA), will be held October 4, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
A Candlelight Tour will be held October 3, from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
The biennial tour showcases the architectural diversity and unique character of historic Hyde Park, which is nestled in the heart of midtown Kansas City, conveniently located between the Plaza and Crown Center.
The event includes a candlelight tour of four properties Friday evening, October 3, and the October 4 tour includes six homes and one newly renovated historic apartment building.
Tour homes include:
* 743 Manheim, a stately stone American Foursquare overlooks beautiful Harrison Parkway. Built in 1908, the home was once the residence of the founder of Kansas City’s first Baseball team, the Kansas City Blues.
* 3659 Campbell, this nearly 4,000 square foot home was built in 1911 for an insurance executive at a cost of $10,000. The huge, sunlit gourmet kitchen with black and white tile walls and a cobalt blue Viking six-burner range is a chef’s delight.
* 4235 Kenwood, this stone shirtwaist overlooking Gillham Park was built in 1909 by G. L. Hoffman & Company. Although updated for modern living, traditional features such as built-ins have been maintained.
* 3434 Campbell, this 3100 square foot, 6-bedroom home was built in 1889. The home features a stunning open staircase from the first to the third floors, a feature not normally seen in typical shirtwaist homes.
* 19 Janssen Place is located within the Janssen Place Historic District. This home is a Mid-Century Modern with Prairie Style influences. It was once a duplex and was converted back to a single-family home. This home showcases the unique architectural diversity of the neighborhood.
* 4214 Campbell, this 100-year old shirtwaist boasts historic features like a stone and brick porch, and has been remodeled by the current owners to preserve its historic character.
