Dramatic Sail Design Will Echo the Iconic Pier Parking Garage
(POMPANO BEACH, Fla.) — NEWS: The Pompano Beach CRA (www.pompanobeachcra.com) is proud to announce the “groundbreaking” ceremony for the new Atlantic Boulevard Bridge. The marine-themed event will eschew the typical shovel in the ground for something “reel” fun. The new look for the bridge has been designed by Currie Sowards Aguila Architects and will be built by Burkhardt Construction. The public is invited to attend the ceremony which will feature speeches by company officials and local dignitaries.
The festivities begin at 10:30 am on Monday, December 11, 2017 at The Foundry restaurant.
“This new bridge will become a tremendous asset to the City,” said Horacio Danovich, City of Pompano Beach CIP Manager. “In addition to the practical function, this bridge is a symbolic ‘welcome’ to all who visit our beachfront. In the past couple of years, the beachfront has undergone a magnificent transformation. From a once blighted area, it is now emerging as a popular site attracting restaurants, businesses and a hotel.”
Currie Sowards Aguila Architects (www.csa-architects.com), who designed the instantly iconic Pompano Beach Pier Parking Garage, has been tapped to design the new bridge. The Atlantic Boulevard Bridge will display a playful design concept which incorporates sail-like components and a marine-themed mural at the bridge tender house base.
“When people see the bridge, they will probably assume we were influenced by the sail-like components and art work of our garage design, however, we actually designed the bridge first,” explained architect Jess Sowards. “We knew these two structures needed to have a cohesive style, but we created each with its own personality. This area will truly be a gateway to the city, and we are thrilled that our designs will be welcoming residents and visitors alike for decades to come.”
About the Pompano Beach Redevelopment Agency (CRA):
A Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is a dependent district established by City government for the purpose of carrying out redevelopment activities that include reducing or eliminating blight, improving the economic health of an area, and encouraging public and private investments in a CRA district.
The CRA is governed by State Statutes, Chapter 163, Part III. The Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency is funded through Tax Increment Financing (TIF). The funds are collected as property values increase and a portion of that increase is captured by the Agency. TIF raises revenue for redevelopment efforts without raising taxes.
